around the Berlin central station there are some new Hotels .... It is quite central to both, east and west of the city .... As I'm travelling very often for work, I stay often in the 'MotelOne'...it's a chain with some houses in Berlin ..... one is at the central station, another one very central at the Leipziger Platz/Potsdamer Platz....they are quite cheap, mostly around 79€ for a double bed room....just google them....

Fabulous thread!

I am going to Berlin next week with my son (15). Not having been to Berlin before, we will want to see all the obvious landmarks in the city over two or three days.

Unfortunately, there is a very wide choice of hotels and I have no idea which areas to aim for and which to avoid in terms of location. I don't want a long commute or be stuck near a motorway. Something with nice local restaurants and shops would be ideal.

Any recommendations for something central so we can walk to the majority of places we would visit?

Apologies for the naivety of the question..!

Thanks in advance.

Hello all,

First, thank you very much to everyone who made suggestions or pm'd me with information.

I managed to get a deal with flights included via Expedia to stay at the Hilton Berlin, so booked that earlier this afternoon. It's in the area everyone suggests and relatively central.

Really looking forward to this trip. It's strange really, but I have travelled all over the world, to every continent and there is hardly a major city I haven't visited, either with work or privately, but have never, ever, been to Berlin.

Really looking forward to a few days visiting next week... and finally be able to make a photographic contribution to this thread!

Thank you all once again. Especially Hertgraef for the original thread and for his pm... and to all the other photographers who posted on here for the inspiration to finally get me to go...!

Very much appreciated!

Hi Bill,

google for "propeller island hotel" and you should find a hotel of a different kind. We have been there 3 or 4 times and it has been always fun to stay. Berlin's Ku'damm is in walking distance as well but I would suggest to buy a public transport ticket to go around.

Take care,

Carsten

Do you know, I don't think I have ever looked at this thread before -- how shocking. I think I tend to skip straight past the 'stickies' when I log on. It has been my loss because there are some terrific pictures here -- large-scale (in content, I mean) and beautifully executed and processed.

I especially enjoyed post 1, 7, 13 (image #1), 14 (MarkP's lovely wife in an equally lovely setting) and 35.

That doesn't mean there weren't others that grabbed my attention but for there the moment above stand out. I shall look again with renewed interest at some point.
