Winedemonium Posted July 31, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm interested in hearing about your experiences with and choices of shift lenses on the S. I know Leica has what looks like the Schneider 120/5.6 configured as a native Leica S lens, but I am more interested in the wide end, for urban landscape work. The official Leica S adaptors open up a number of legacy lens options, and there are probably bellows type adaptors that can do the job with large image circle lenses not covered by the adaptors. I haven't looked into that. Any experiences/choices to share please?

Manolo Laguillo Posted July 31, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 31, 2015 Have a look at this thread: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/247969-120mm-ts-apo-elmar-%E2%80%93-any-users/ I don't think a bellows would be a viable solution with short focal lengths (30 to 45 mm). There's simply not enough space... The Zörk adapter for using Pentax 6x7 lenses on the Leica S has already a tough mission, because there's a very short distance available for both the shift and the revolving movements. Herr Zörk told me that he was against putting a tripod fixation unit on the adapter because there would be many possibilities for the photographer dropping by accident the lens etc. Another possible solution, if you need a wider angle, is of course stitching: I've done it with the latest version of LR using 2 adjacent pictures made with the Zörk + Pentax 6x7 45 mm by shifting sideways, with fine results. No problem with parallax, even being it a scene with objects in a foreground at 4-5 m distance.
xiaubauu2009 Posted July 31, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 31, 2015 Just use Alpa FPS with contax lens (they are coming out with a dual shift mount, I have tried it and it's good!!!) and a digital back. The lens can then fit on Leica S as an walkabout camera! That's what I plan to build anyway. The weight is pretty heavy. But you get to use shift ability while also still have leica S versatility.
ynp Posted July 31, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 31, 2015 What is the opinion on the Mamiya 50mm. shift lens? Will it allow stitching ? Thanks!
John McMaster Posted July 31, 2015 Share #6 Posted July 31, 2015 The Mamiya is OK but not in the same league as an S lens, really needs to be stopped down to f11. It has 13mm (or 15mm? It is half a world away from me currently) shift so you can then rotate the lens 180 degrees to get 13mm/15mm shift either side... john
