ShivaYash Posted July 28, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 28, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, Does this really make a difference? I took two identical images today, one with the 'correct' lens, the camera selected on auto and then again on manual mode, with the actual correct lens. There was a slight difference but which one is 'correct'?
Advertisement Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Hi ShivaYash, Take a look here Lens selection - manual or auto?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jdlaing Posted July 28, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 28, 2015 Whichever one you like the best.
IWC Doppel Posted August 4, 2015 Share #3 Posted August 4, 2015 Are you saying you took two pictures one with the auto recognising the lens and one with the camera on manual and you set the correct lens option yourself and they were different ?! pico Posted August 5, 2015 Share #6 Posted August 5, 2015 What was the difference...? In my experience, no difference whatsoever. I'm inclined to point to user metric error. .
IWC Doppel Posted August 5, 2015 Share #7 Posted August 5, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have never tried but surely the camera setting is the same, the only difference being how you instructed the camera for the setting
pop Posted August 5, 2015 Share #8 Posted August 5, 2015 How identical are the images really?
earleygallery Posted August 5, 2015 Share #9 Posted August 5, 2015 (edited) It's probably the same difference people (claim to) see between the Leica and Panasonic P&S cameras! Edited August 5, 2015 by earleygallery
ShivaYash Posted August 5, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted August 5, 2015 I'm using a non coded lens from 1992 so think manual selection is better.
earleygallery Posted August 5, 2015 Share #11 Posted August 5, 2015 If it's a non coded lens, how did the auto selection identify it then ?

earleygallery Posted August 5, 2015 Share #13 Posted August 5, 2015 I think you should spend some time reading your manual to understand how your camera works. Auto selection can only work with a coded lens, that's the point of having the codes. If you don't have a coded lens then you have to use manual selection of course. It's not a surprise that you will see some difference between a photo with and without the proper code being applied for most lenses.

Having spent £4k on a body I didn't think of that ;-)
earleygallery Posted August 5, 2015 Share #15 Posted August 5, 2015 No worries. Your original post suggested that you had used a coded lens and compared images - which would be rather bizarre if they were different and probably point to a faulty camera, so you're lucky that wasn't the case !
