It's that time of year again...

The Vienna One Challenge is being held on Saturday 17th October 2015 and as is now traditional, we will be organising dinner for anyone who wishes to join us. With Carsten's help, we may have found a suitable venue for both the lunchtime meeting and dinner, but will be able to confirm that later. We have always found somewhere pretty good for these events, even when we have a good turn-out, and I am sure that 2015 will be no exception.

On the list I have the following:

Andy Barton x2
Carsten Dannat x4
James Earley x1
Carl Bretteville x2
Philippe Octo x2
Christoph Dobrusskin x2
Dan Bachmann x2
Pete Farnsworth x1
Brian Parkes x1
Ravi Bindra x1
Simon Leach x 2 1/2
John Howarth x2
Stefan Seider x1
Philipp Potocki x2
John Görten x1
Tom Lane x2
Rick Peterson x3
Ted Ernhill x1
John Cartwright x1
Lars Valk x1
Robert Parker x1
Wolfgang Esslinger x1

Eckart Friz x1 (veggie)

Vasken Ohanian x2

So, I make that 39 1/2.

As always, we will need to confirm the numbers closer to the date (once we have made a provisional booking), but please add your names to the thread if you will be joining us, or let me know if you can no longer make it.

Many thanks

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE HAVE TO CONFIRM NUMBERS AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER, SO THE LIST WILL BE CLOSING THEN.

I think that we may have found a suitable place that can cater for us all. We are just checking with them, but they can go up to 300... which should be enough!

They have a "prix fixe set menu" for groups, but there is plenty of choice on that menu.

As soon as we can confirm, I will post details here.

I am pleased to say that with the brilliant help of Carsten, we have made a booking at the Esterhazykeller restaurant. This is situated in the basement of what looks like an old castle at Haarhof 1, 1010 Vienna. It's nice and central and is easily capable of catering for a large party such as ourselves.

A booking has provisionally been made for 32, but they are aware that numbers are likely to increase as we get closer to the date. Tables have been booked for 20:00hrs.

For groups, they offer a buffet arrangement, so that there will be a choice from the attached menu - we have decided to push the boat out and go with the whole Euro 32.90 option (plus a Euro 1 tip! - not sure if this is correct, but...). We have asked for vegetarian options too, of course.

They also have a cafe above ground that will do very nicely for the lunchtime meeting too.

Closer to the time, I will do the usual instruction pages, for those of you who like to laminate and collect these things :)

I noticed the comment about cards just now as well. To be honest, when there's a large party, cash is king anyway. It's much easier to account for, as is the set-price menu.

I also suspect that the comments re the service being patchy wouldn't apply to a group of 30 or 40, but we will have to wait and see!

The place was recommended by a colleague/friend of Carsten who used to live in the city, btw.

It looks perfect, nice and traditional, and it's always best to go on personal recommendations. It also looks to be near my hotel :)

edit - nope, 27mins walk. I'll have to stop off for a beer rest en route!
