Software is licensed and the perpetual license is disappearing fast. Subscription is the future revenue source for software companies in saturated and declining markets. Bundling helps pad out revenues especially for professional software as the licensee is vulnerable  in the need to keep a business viable.

Microsoft may well be the next to go totally down this path as windows 10 upgrade appears to be only free for 12 months.

subsciption is the future except for companies that are not revenue desperate.

Lightroom Mobile is an iPad/iPhone app. No big deal. You got a free trial with Lightroom and it is running out.

I was hoping that was all it was about

I saw this on my copy too, and was puzzled since I never requested or received a mobile version. Perhaps it was in the app store as a demo?

But I really have no interest at all in processing raw camera files on a mobile device. Some do, clearly!

The concept is sweet - iPad mini in the bag, stop for lunch, plug sd card in iPad, they get taken into Lightroom and put in the Adobe cloud, delete, flag, edit a little, when you get home they are on your main computer's Lightroom with the unchanged DNGs and all the changes you made.

Just one flaw I can't see a way round - the DNGs remain in the Adobe cloud. Do you have to export and import them to get them on your normal storage+backup infrastructure? It's a peculiar hole in the workflow unless I have a blind spot for the simple solution.

So, would be nice, but is useless. I hope there's something I've overlooked.

Apple sells a "camera connection kit" which is either an sd card slot attached to a small plug for the new iPads, a usb socket (to plug into your camera) attached to the new iPad's small plug, or both devices connected to large plugs for the old iPads.

Unfortunately it doesn't work on the iPhone.

The iPad will only deal with image files (including raw, DNG) found on the end of the wire; no other kind of import is possible.
