bobbywise Posted July 15, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I purchased a barely used M9-P from Foto Dotti in Italy a few months back (I'm in France -- so it was UPSed to me). It has a 6 month guarantee with them. It's been perfect, until just recently. I recently noticed a white dot (in the same place) on the JPEGs produced by the camera. I did a bit of research on this topic, and came to the conclusion that a cosmic ray interacted with the sensor to create one hot/dead pixel. I guess it's not a big issue because the DNGs themselves seem to get autocorrected by nearest neighbour pixels in LR6 (and even the native Preview app on MacOS). Furthermore, exporting another JPEG from LR eliminates this white dot. But it is slightly unfortunate as I often use the files directly with my iOS device instead of a computer, and in this case Photogene doesn't seem to auto-correct the white dot when exporting the DNG to JPEG. I assume I would need to get the M9-P sent off to Solms so they could re-perform the bad pixel mapping (shame we as end users can't do it). Would this bad pixel mapping be covered by my 6 month guarantee ? If not covered, does anyone know the approximate cost ? If I decide to get the bad pixel mapping done (during the 6 month guarantee period), would I simply deal with Leica directly ? In fact, I realised the purchase was made early January 2015, and they dispatched it on January 7th 2015 (I probably received it a few days later). So the chances are, I'm just out of the guarantee period (only noticed the issue this weekend, even if it stemmed back a couple of weeks). You gotta love those cosmic rays !
