1000mm f/8.0.  I think it was an alignment scope produced at Elcan but it functions as a long lens.  Has one element in front (127mm wide) and more about 6 inches down the tube.

Intriguing... though probably not made for photographic usage.... has it some focusing mechanism ? How is the attachment in the back ? Is there any writing onto ?

Very compact for 1000mm.

However it was probably made for recognising distance naval ships as friend or foe.

I remember looking with awe at the optical rangefinder in an old ww2 blockhouse on the Normandy coast, used for aiming naval guns, it had a baselength of about 2 metres. Put that on your M240 and you'd having no trouble focussing at f/ 0.95

5 meters is still kid stuff - the battleship Yamato had a 15-meter battle rangefinder (largest ever built - radar took over the task from optics soon after she was launched).
