Here's a different "Leica" lens (Elcan)

Very compact for 1000mm.

However it was probably made for recognising distance naval ships as friend or foe.

I remember looking with awe at the optical rangefinder in an old ww2 blockhouse on the Normandy coast, used for aiming naval guns, it had a baselength of about 2 metres. Put that on your M240 and you'd having no trouble focussing at f/ 0.95
