Cleaning sensor - first time

. It's a sensitive subject and that is why Leica does not charge for cleaning the sensor specifically on these cameras.

Leica does not charge for cleaning because an awful lot of owners know nothing about cameras and are clueless and would remain clueless even if told how to clean their own sensor, or perhaps they'd get their butler to do it. Leica does not discourage wet cleaning, and wet cleaning has not been shown as the cause of sensor corrosion, and in any case corrosion does not happen suddenly overnight and you get a free new sensor and camera overhaul if it does appear. But seriously, what do you imagine all those photographers do who need their camera and can't pop into a Leica dealer on seeing dust  because they are being bombed is Syria or are on holiday in the Maldives, they clean the damned thing! The numbers cleaning their own sensor will far outweigh those that can't, and Leica know that.

An Arctic Butterfly brush is an excellent device. But it should be used only after wet cleaning or only when the photographer is convinced the M9 has stopped throwing off oil from the shutter, otherwise the brush becomes contaminated and smears oil all over the sensor, so now the brush and the sensor need wet cleaning, so it's hard not to advocate doing the job properly in the first place. And it should be remembered that the free cleaning offered by Leica Dealers is not all done by trained technicians (even if trained technicians are on site), but by running off into the back room and doing exactly the same routine that any photographer could do if they hadn't been scared off from doing it. And who is more likely to be ultra careful and meticulous, a camera shop employee who isn't being paid to clean sensors, or the camera's owner?
