photogray Posted July 4, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just received as a gift a new D-Lux 109. My first Leica in 30 years, since I sold my M4's for a Linhof Technikardan 4x5. Anyway, took it out for some test shots; the first five looked fine, then the screen went white with vertical colored lines and no image at all. Playback still works fine; I can see the test shots I took, all the camera menus appear on the screen when accessed, but cannot take a picture of anything but the white screen with lines. Anyone know what this could be and if it's solvable? I've attached a sample of the camera's image below. Thanks in advance. Rob Welcome, dear visitor! Louis Posted July 4, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 4, 2015 Take your battery and card out and put them back again to see if it comes to normal. If not, send it to Leica and they give you a new camera.
photogray Posted July 4, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted July 4, 2015 Thanks Louis. As we say in English, "been there/done that"...I'll be calling Leica first thing Monday.
dhsimmonds Posted July 4, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 4, 2015 Hi Photogray That really is terribly bad luck but be assured that Leica will replace it for you. Let is know how you get on please?
photogray Posted July 17, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted July 17, 2015 As a followup to my post, Leica replaced the camera with another. Ostensibly a new camera, though it came without the original packaging from Leica USA. Just the camera, and a new warranty number, with the page cut out of the booklet. Does this sound like normal Leica replacement policy?
jip Posted July 17, 2015 Share #6 Posted July 17, 2015 Don't know if it's the normal replacement policy but it's good to hear it was quick.
dhsimmonds Posted July 17, 2015 Share #7 Posted July 17, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) That is excellent service! Worth the premium price??
photogray Posted July 18, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted July 18, 2015 From a service perspective, yes. There's a lot of reassurance when a camera, with so much going on electronically, comes with a three year warranty. I haven't done an exhaustive comparison with the Lumix version, but the fact that the jpegs from the Leica are purported to be better, along with the free Lightroom download, which I needed, made the choice a no-brainer for me. Plus, I started my photography career in 1972 with a purchase of a Leica M3, right after I met Robert Frank. I've got a bit of nostalgia for the brand. dhsimmonds Posted July 19, 2015 Share #9 Posted July 19, 2015 Quite understandable in your case.
