julianf73 Posted July 3, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 3, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there a reason that when I use Live View, the camera seems to underexpose by about a stop, as opposed to when I use the camera in normal mode? In both instances, it's set to A mode Same exact scene, same framing.....what am I doing wrong?

Loren Posted July 3, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 3, 2015 (edited) Is there a reason that when I use Live View, the camera seems to underexpose by about a stop, as opposed to when I use the camera in normal mode? In both instances, it's set to A mode Same exact scene, same framing.....what am I doing wrong? I am a new user of the 240, but my understanding is that LV provides additional metering modes than when you use only the viewfinder. When you use the viewfinder you are using the Classic shutter metering. In Live View you have a choice of three metering modes: Spot Center-Weighted (Similar to Classic) Multi-Field (Akin to Matrix Mode in Nikons) I think that the Picture Parameter Menu will access the choices for Live View when you select Exposure metering in that menu. Odds are that it is set to Spot of Multi-Field. I also see in the SET menu there is a menu near the bottom called Exposure Metering. You can set the LV exposure metering mode there. julianf73 Posted July 3, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted July 3, 2015 Loren, maybe that's the problem. I don't see the choices for Live View anywhere....now i'm really scratching my head
Loren Posted July 3, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 3, 2015 (edited) Do you have the manual? Page 177 comes to mind. When you select the SET menu, what is the setting at the second from the bottom of the list? Edited July 3, 2015 by Loren
tatetate Posted July 4, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 4, 2015 Perhaps you need to use Advance metering and then use Live view to get better results, Using conventional metering always get fooled by backlight or underexposed. Hope this helps.
julianf73 Posted July 9, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted July 9, 2015 Ok, I just realized something very funky about it: when in Live View, I compose and press the shutter release half way down. The LCD displays reads 1/15 sec, ISO 1600. I then immediately press the shutter release all the way down, take the picture, withouth changing ANYTHING, and when I view the picture on the back of the camera, it now reads 1/45 sec, ISO 1600! And the shot is underexposed. What gives?!?!?
algrove Posted July 9, 2015 Share #7 Posted July 9, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Julian Have you actually taken the time to read the manual about how to use LV? It is very clear.
julianf73 Posted July 9, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted July 9, 2015 Julian Have you actually taken the time to read the manual about how to use LV? It is very clear. I just read the page in the manual that describes Live View three times (page 174), and I don't see anything that explains it.
julianf73 Posted July 9, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted July 9, 2015 (edited) OK, here's a new twist: I just realized that when in Live View, no matter what I point the camera at, and no matter what the LCD says, the image ALWAYS is taken at 1/45 sec. And I did just read the manual again, I guess I'm missing something obvious. Edited July 9, 2015 by julianf73
