Advertisement Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Hi Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS, Take a look here CCD or CMOS sensor. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ynp Posted July 2, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 2, 2015 (edited) I am afraid nobody outside a tight circle of Leica testers have seen the Leica -S CMOS sensors. The ISO shall be better. The 180mm will be handhold-able in ambient. For strobes inside and outside the higher ISO is less desirable. Your CS lenses will let you overpower the ambient easy. Colors... Who knows.... pico Posted July 2, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 2, 2015 The S is strictly CMOS. That is what you are getting, correct? CCD is good, but CMOS is far more compliant to firmware control. CMOS has entirely caught up. Astronomers use CCD, but we are not astronomers, are we. I am hoping to get an S next year, should I live so long. . Jeff S Posted July 3, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 3, 2015 The S is strictly CMOS. Huh? Only starting with the new Type 007…..others versions CCD, and no live view. Jeff

Hence the question about the sensors My thinking is landscape and studio requires base ISO and I have never shot a video in my life so should I spend an extra 10 grand for something I don't need/use

Jeff Hay Jeff remember I was having issues trying to upgrade to Lightroom 6 when I was on the rig well I just managed to do it at home via Adobe in Singapore .......its just taking ages to download Thanks again for your links and help with this. BTW, I haven't provided any new links for your various other S and lens questions….too many already in the forum, let alone elsewhere, with a simple search. Jeff Yea I know but I have only ever used it on a few occasions I prefer looking through the view finder...I did use it in the M240 when I was using the 21mm when I dandy have the external viewfinder but that was the only time............Like I said I will find out tomorrow if I bring home a new 006 or wait for the 007......gut feeling is I will be shooting a Leica S tomorrow afternoon
Jeff S Posted July 3, 2015 Share #9 Posted July 3, 2015 (edited) On the M, sure, but many landscape shooters use medium format on tripod only for maximum stability (especially with longer exposures)…and use LV (rear screen) to ensure focus details, etc. For them, this is a much lighter and more convenient alternative to setting up a large format view camera, and to realize maximum benefit from the sensor size and lens quality….particularly with typically larger landscape prints. But I guess that's too contemplative for a man on the fast move… Jeff Edited July 3, 2015 by Jeff S

None of the Leica boys shooting MF have used LV either because we still don't have a camera with LV in MF...yet and Leica Mayfair are now saying the October date has also been pushed back again so who knows it could be March next year
Jeff S Posted July 3, 2015 Share #11 Posted July 3, 2015 None of the Leica boys shooting MF have used LV either because we still don't have a camera with LV in MF.. Captain Obvious. BTW, it's a fundamental answer to the question in your first post. And the reason why some have not bothered to buy earlier versions. albertknappmd Posted July 6, 2015 Share #14 Posted July 6, 2015 If you want to compare the actual effects of the CCD and CMOS sensors on your photographs, I would look up David Farkas' rigourously controlled and detailed 3 part study of the CCD and CMOS sensors used in the M series http://www.reddotforum.com/content/2015/03/the-great-debate-ccd-vs-cmos-part-3/ Albert
