Northwest Wanderer Posted July 1, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) A little history of Crater Lake. The deep basin is the belly of an erupted volcano (caldera) A massive volcanic eruption 7,700 years ago left a deep basin in the place where a mountain peak once stood. Centuries of rain and snow filled the basin, forming a deep blue lake. At some point in time another smaller eruption occurred within the water filled basin and formed Wizard Island. The water colors in this lake are amazing to say the least. Welcome, dear visitor!
