As a follow on to the "Which M lenses do you own?" thread, how about this question:

 

Which M lenses do you want to own??

 

 

 

I'll go first.  If money were not an issue -

 

New Leica:

28mm Summilux ASPH (who doesn't want this lens?)

50mm Summicron (#11826, not the APO version)

75mm Summicron APO/ASPH (#11637)

135mm f/3.4 APO Telyt (#11889)

 

New Non-Leica:

35mm f/1.2 ASPH Voigtlander version 2

 

Vintage Leica:

35mm Summicron version 4 (#11310)

50mm Summilux (#11868)

75mm Summilux (#11815)

The only M lens I'd like to add is a 75 Summicron. Well, maybe I'd exchange my 50 Summicron for a 50 Summilux ASPH... maybe.

 

But the only Leica lens I'm probably going to buy is a 120 APO Macro Summarit.

The 120mm is the ons at around 5000 Euro?

Comfortable with what I have (50mm Lux asph and 28mm summicron), so not really looking to add anything, but if I had large disposable income I would get perhaps a 21 SEM and a 90 macro-elmar (love the rendering and size).

If money were no object, I "want" to own them all.  I am eyeballing the Summicron 50mm Apo Aspherical, however.  But before that, I would have to give in to my desire for the Leica M 246 Monochrome ...... And so far the little devil voice in my ear trying to tell me to just go order one isn't winning!  I keep up the fight.

I think I want to own less than I have so I can focus more (too many lenses clutters my mind).

 

You could always just get a smaller camera bag. Small bag = small kit. Small kit = easy choices.

 

I have a little Domkie FX5a to hold my minimalist kits.

Kit 1: M9 wearing a 35 Summicron with a 90 in the space left. Travel kit.

Kit 2: Monochrom wearing a 50 Summicron with a 21 in the space left. Walk about kit.

Kit 3: M9/35 and Mono/50 (tight but works). Just in case the shot screams color kit.

At various times I've had 21/3.4 SA (original), 21/2.8 ASPH, 28/2.8 v3, 35/2 ASPH, 35/1.4 ASPH, 50/2 11817 and 11826, 75/1.4, 90/2 APO-ASPH, 135/3.4 APO and both versions of the MATE.  I wish I had hung onto them all long enough to sell them for what they're worth today, but the only one I would keep is the v.2 MATE, and if money (and my sense of value) were no object I would get another one.  Otherwise I'm satisfied with what I have.

I don't collect lenses, I have most of the lenses I require (see the other thread). Never had an interest is the Noctilux, I am a fan of the Summilux ASPH. And the APOs benefits over the Summilux don't appear significant.

 

As a person who loves to do architecture and cityscapes, the only remaining lens I need is the Tri-Elmar 16-18-21mm.

I like your thinking. Sometimes somebody needs a particular lens to move their photography forwards, but less can be more.

Yes and no. To go out shooting less is indeed more, but when selecting a kit for the day it is nice to have a wide choice. So my technique is to carry a small number of lenses, or one lens, dedicated to the purpose.

What I want most is a lens that doesn't exist. A 16mm Leica Tilt Shift for architecture, then I wouldn't need to bring along the 5D Mark III for architecture shoots.

Lenses are (very nice) tools as far as I am concerned. Money no object I'd own a set of Summiluxes. Otherwise I'm fairly satisfied and could live with 3 lenses - 21SE, 35/1,4 and 75/2 (others are handy though :) ).
