Heard Ilford PanF Plus is about to be discontinued

Heard this from a friend who works in a major camera store in NYC (obviously Adorama or B &H) who shoots film. He told me yesterday that Ilford was discontinuing this film. Anyone hear the same? Thoughts?

Why didn't you write Ilford a mail and ask them - at least before going online and spreading what could be a damaging rumor?

I don't trust any corporation to offer up the truth about a plan they aren't ready to reveal, for whatever reason. And I not spreading a rumor but asking the question of whether anyone on this forum has heard the same. That's all. If they haven't, then that's that and we move on. Ilford's decision one way or the other is unlikely to be made based on what is written on this forum.

"I can still buy it" is no indication that "it hasn't been discontinued." There is always a load of product in the distribution pipelines, that will take months or years to disappear. Kodachrome was available for 9 months after the official notice of its demise.  Film companies have generally given notice far in advance of actually ceasing to ship products, just so that dedicated users can stock up (helping to empty their warehouses).

We received some in the store today (35mm and 120) - but I wouldn't take that as a guarantee the factory is still running it. However, we have received no notice it is going away.

Pan F+ was my main film in my film-Leica days (2001-2006). Only film slow enough for sunlight shooting at anything other than f/11, that was also easy to find, easy to process, and with a long, grainless tonal range that scanned beautifully.

That's not what I meant, at all. I see film in a tentative (and niche) revival, but these sorts of often baseless internet rumors have a tendency to very quickly become 'internet facts', and help to paint a picture of an industry in an endless spiral of decline, discouraging new users and generally spreading Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt.

James -- Thanks so much for the effort, much appreciated (I am not on FB). Certainly hope so. I have evolved my shooting back to film with a Leica Q as the carry around digital (swapped for my M9). I love it, but love film better, and am looking forward to using PAN F Plus this summer.

I intend to. Cost is zero relative to what I learn today for shooting in the years ahead. Always wonder what others think. Just fun to read people opine on film and box speed and what they shoot it at etc. another way of gathering information. But yes nothing like trying it for oneself

As an example of the health of film at the moment, and that Ilford aren't getting nervous, they are now once again stocking Ilford B&W films in UK high streets at Boots chemist shops! I don't think this will run to esoteric (for the public) Pan F, but the main lines of HP5, FP4 and Delta will be there in 35mm and 120.

great news -- especially since I am back to film pretty much full time now (have a Q for the digital moments) and am rediscovering different films, especially BW. Just shot a roll in Vermont and liked it a lot, will try it again in more varied light. I think FP4 looks a little sharper but it will take a few more rolls to figure it out.
