davehendley Posted June 28, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone here seen a similar fault ? - I'm no technician but it looks like something from behind the light gathering window has come adrift. I was horrified when I found this yesterday - I use the MP daily but treat it very gently. In 30 years as a Leica M user I have never come across anything of this nature. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Hi davehendley, Take a look here MP viewfinder Fault. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted June 28, 2015 Share #2 Posted June 28, 2015 Never seen that before! it looks like it might be something to do with the frame line mechanism - can you still see the frame lines? Presumably that is a solid piece of something? Is it loose? Whatever it is, you need to send your camera in for repair.
davehendley Posted June 28, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) Thanks James - never seen that either and I've had/have qute a few Ms (M3/M4/M4P/M6/M8/M8.2/M9) - And, yes the piece is loose - it doesn't look broken, but more as if it has somehow come free. The frame lines however, are still visable - I bought the camera from Aperture in London and it is still under warrenty so it's going in for repair tomorrow. semi-ambivalent Posted June 29, 2015 Share #4 Posted June 29, 2015 My MP has a visible edge (of something thin) just inside the VF window. My guess is some type of mask. Warranty for the win, s-a
pico Posted June 29, 2015 Share #5 Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) Not in fifty years of using Ms have I seen that. It's a RF front lens part. I'm surprised the view is not distorted. BTW, the masks are not in front of the viewfinder. They are projected from the side @ ~45 degree angle. Warranty, for certain. Good luck! Pico, Just to be more clear than I was, I didn't mean those masks (which I think is really a singular masking assembly). I just looked at my MP and there is a (metal?) edge denoting some type of aperture just behind the front window. It's black and smaller than the glass window. Just sayin' Can't speak to that silver thing in OP's post though. My camera is about 2013-ish Regards, s-a
davehendley Posted June 30, 2015 Author Share #7 Posted June 30, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Update - the technician at Aperture had encountered this before on several occassions - It's a flimsy piece of clear plastic that's purpose is to enhance the brightness of the viewfinder. He said it was not one of Leica's better ideas and that it often finds it's way into other parts of the camera where it goes unoticed until it jams part of the mechanism. Aparrently no big deal to fix. Camera should be back in a day or so. Many thanks for the replies.
