ironringer Posted June 25, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 25, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Are early (or any) M style cable releases, such as product #14067 (23cm tapered screwtip cable release), stamped Leitz or Leica? Most (or all?) genuine Leica screwmount cable releases are so marked (on the surround ring or thumb end), but I have not seen markings on the few M-series cable releases I have seen (they may be generic). "Made in Germany" or "Germany" markings are common, but I have not seen Leitz or Leica stampings. I appreciate input from users and collectors, so I know what identifiers to look for when I sort through these things at camera swap meets. I want a genuine 1950s M cable release for my M3. Advertisement Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Hi ironringer, Take a look here Are early M cable releases marked Leitz/Leica?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaques Posted June 25, 2015 Share #2 Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) hmm, I might be able to help you- but not sure how I can tell. I recently came into a large collection of cable release (100 or so) wherin there is maybe 15 different Leica marked cable releases. Most are marked right on the button top- they have a variety of tips- including the modern standard threaded cable release and soem for older Leica's... Looking at them- I get the feeling Leica may have simply branded cables from other manufacturers and not made there own cables- at least some of the time. My questions is: How would I know if one was a 1950's 'M cable'? Edited June 25, 2015 by jaques
250swb Posted June 25, 2015 Share #3 Posted June 25, 2015 It would be a curious for Leica to make their own cable releases, they don't make their own filters, batteries, tripods, etc. and I'm sure many if not all general purpose accessories are sourced from other manufacturers. I guess the only way to know for sure if it is a genuine 1950's Leica cable release would be if the price is three times more than any other. If you really want that it is A ) Original Leitz and B ) from the '50s... the only way is to find a boxed-never opened one, with its proper code on the box (FONOT/14067... but if with the number could be from the '60s..)... a difficult search, I fear.... it's easier to find a double cable OZTOM/16491 (made for Visoflex, not rare) and use only half of it...
