Recommended flash for Q?

Which non-Leica flash works with Leica Q?

So far, I did not find any...

Nissin i40 for Pana(Oly (MFT) does not work in TTL/auto (manual only)

Metz 52 also does not work

Metz AF-1 not available for testing anywhere (new model to come??)

Leica SF58 way too bulky and expensive

Leica SF26 not flexible to the side - not available (see Metz AF-1)

I am looking for a not too bulky external flash for indirect exposure, the head should ideally be flexible horizontally and vertically.

Any idea?

Cheers,

Martin

A flash that works needs the TTL/GNC-control-mode, like every flash for Leica (own developed) cameras. Only the relabeled Panaleicas want a Panasonic/Olympus TTL-Mode for real TTL-control. Old Metz flashes support GNC but no actual models.

The Leica SF 26 (built by Metz Germany) is a little bit too small und too expensive, particularly in view of the fact that Metz sells their own versions of the SF26 (mecablitz 26 AF-1) for other TTL-systems from Sony, Pana, Oly etc. for 1/3 of the leica price. The SF58 is out of stock as far as I know und will get a successor soon, if the insolvency of Metz is terminated.

If you own a V-Lux and a Q you have to buy two flashes, an overprized SF26 from Leica for the Q and a flash from Metz, Nissin, Panasonic, Olympus or so for the Panaleica. There is no option to solve the problem with one single flash for both cameras, if you want a TTL-control for the flash.

There are different flash protocols for Leica cameras:

(1)

Leica compact camera including V-Lux, D-Lux (etc) but not including Q or X: this is often called Olympus/Panasonic/Leica protocol and available from various makers

(2)

Leica M cameras before and after M8: this includes the Q, the X and T cameras as well

I have and have tried it. All I can say is that it works in TTL etc but is really far to big for the camera.

Thanks for this. I don't mind it being big, I use flash so rarely I can live with it. Main thing is I won't have to buy a second flash to provide for the Q.

And I've used it already with X cameras, which are even smaller than Q. Talk about being huge compared to camera! :-)
