mikeodial Posted June 22, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 22, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a Sigma SD1 and am interested in using a Leica lens for landscape and general photography on the camera. Do you know if there is such an animal as a Sigma to Leica adapter, or should I use the Leitax solution and modify the mount? Also any suggestions on lenses would be great. I am not familiar with the Leica lenses in detail. Attached is a cropped image from the SD1, fairly typical of the soft of nature shots I like to take. Thanks, Mike Welcome, dear visitor! topoxforddoc Posted June 22, 2015 Share #2 Posted June 22, 2015 If you want to use R lenses, the you can change the mount on your SD1 to take R lenses. http://www.sigmacumlaude.com/products.html They've been going a fair number of years and apparently have number of satisfied customers.
jaapv Posted June 22, 2015 Share #3 Posted June 22, 2015 That photograph you posted could have been taken very nicely with a 80-200 4.0 Vario-Elmar R. There are a great number of interesting and superb Leica R lenses around, Leica really shines in the newer zoom lenses and long lenses. You can get great results with a wide range from the vintage 180-3.4 APO, by the wonderful 80-200 and 105-280 zooms, the superb 280/4.0 APO, to the incredible (and incredibly expensive) APO-MODUL system. And many more. The thing is to determine you need/want and look for the lens that fits it.

One strategy I am planning is to use Leitax to convert the Leica lenses as this seems to be the only way I can use my two Sigma lenses with the same body. Leitax seems The alternative of changing out the mount on the Sigma makes those lenses unusable without another Sigma body which I don't want to do currently. Leitax also has this warning about zoom lenses which I am not sure if this would apply to the zoom lenses you are suggesting .... CAUTION! The Leica Zoom lenses with ROM contacts are, in general, not suitable for Sigma conversion. Most of models would need a custom and expensive work. I would recommend to find a non ROM model in case you wish a Leica Zoom lens. Thanks again for your help.
