Joakim Posted June 23, 2015 Share #4 Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) The Zeiss 135/2 APO is such an excellent lens and although I have only tried it a few times it seems like a great fit for the M Monochrom. I have only used it handheld since I don't have a solution yet for mounting it on a tripod since I don't feel comfortable with letting the camera mount take all that weight without some support. Anyway here is one handheld with this combo: Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! tobey bilek Posted June 24, 2015 Share #5 Posted June 24, 2015 I am sure this is a great set up. Now I know how to hook up my Leitaxed R lenses to M.
sdk Posted June 24, 2015 Share #6 Posted June 24, 2015 It is quite a heavy lens. You might want to give it support from underneath, like Lloyd Chambers recommends, with an Arca Swiss compatible bar and some padding. Joakim Posted June 24, 2015 Share #7 Posted June 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks, I have been looking for a photo of that setup but wasn't sure where I've seen it before. I already have RRS rail like the one he uses so that will be the solution I go for.
rsolomon Posted June 25, 2015 Share #8 Posted June 25, 2015 It looks beautiful and HEAVY. I am constantly looking at the 135 3.4 and think I need a larger lens... at least f/2.8. Seeing your f/2 gives me ideas. Are there other choices out there. Of course I prefer m mount (without adapter). Thanks for any insight. Joakim Posted June 26, 2015 Share #9 Posted June 26, 2015 I am not aware of any f/2 in the M mount.

Seeing your f/2 gives me ideas. Are there other choices out there. Of course I prefer m mount (without adapter). Thanks for any insight. I would urge you rent an APO Sonnar 135mm and shoot it out and about a bit before buying one. The lens performance is exceptional, becoming really useful to my taste by ~f/3.4. Again, based on the lenses I used for a while, the APO Sonnar was already more crisp and 3D at f/2.8 than the APO Telyt was at any setting... but I do prefer the Telyt colors, as the APO Sonnar gives very cold hues. But, here is the point. The combo of M+APO Sonnar weighs a ton and a half. Focusing is awkward because your hands are miles apart and cannot support each other. You need 1/1000th or shorter to see the super fine resolution the APO Sonnar renders.
Winedemonium Posted July 1, 2015 Share #11 Posted July 1, 2015 Interesting use of the red filter - quite a specialised purchase at 77mm (though of course the whole set up is). I like your images. I also have the 2/135, and I think I will keep it. It's a super lens. I sold my D810 - it felt well balanced on that camera. I just no longer want a mirrored camera. At some point I think there will be a body I prefer to use with that lens. I'm not sure my M is it though. Perhaps if Leica do a Q-like interchangeable, or some future iteration of the Sony Alpha series...
EoinC Posted July 1, 2015 Share #12 Posted July 1, 2015 I have the ZE version (so no manual aperture ring), and have a M/EF adapter headed my way. The adapter was intended for using my TS-E 24 on the 246, but this inspires me to try my other EF lenses. I can set the aperture on an EOS body, before attaching to the 246, which is quite limiting, but not the end of the World. Thanks for posting the shots.
