Drove past a Corniche today - I was struck by the fact that it really was a truly ugly car, made from a parts bin, and the windscreen wipers were 3/4 up the windscreen (it wasn't raining). I know there will be people here who like that car, but it looked well looked after, but tragically undeserving of the RR badge. However, there's something rather stately about the Silver Shadow.

That Phantom II looks like the most extraordinary love, to be in that condition. Thanks Dunk.

A 'modern' Rolls Royce Phantom: The owner had parked his car in front of Burghley House and then from his chosen camera position was waiting for the Sun … so I chose another position hoping that the cloud would not reveal the Sun. Cars usually photograph better in overcast conditions.

Leica R9/DMR; R 28-90mm Vario-Elmarit ASPH   By luck there were no people visible but behind me there were many visitors enjoying the show. Really need to do some 'gardening' to remove the tree growing out of the car roof.

Best wishes

Lots of cars were sold over the weekend at the Burghley House RR Enthusiasts event - both by dealers and at auction. This low mileage Bentley Brooklands 'Low Pressure Turbo' is capable of 0-60mph in under 8 seconds and would have cost over £100K when new. Seems to be a bargain at the price sold because it's unlikely to £depreciate much more - and the servicing costs could be less than the depreciation on other more modern 'runabouts' … thus a lot of car for the £££. Some might consider the styling a bit ordinary and dated … but it's cheaper than many s/h 'bread and butter' cars and a lot more enjoyable.

The RR Enthusiasts Club Rally includes the Annual Concours d'Elegance judging and awards ceremony. Unfortunately I could not get close enough to the trophy marquee area to obtain many 'in isolation' photos … but the owner of the winning Bentley Crewe Class left his immaculate Bentley Azure DHC unattended in a convenient location … note the winner's rosette on the bonnet.

Did you buy the Bentley Dunk?

Seems somone got an amazing bargain - apart from tyres and petrol I hear that running costs needn't be much higher than most other cars if you use an independent garage for servicing.

The Bentley would not fit in my garage James … and I'm saving for more Leica 'T' lenses ;)

Correction .. although an award winner it did not win the Class … overall Bentley Crewe Class winner was another Azure ... need to find out which colour rosettes are awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
