Leica Q WiFi

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if the Leica Q link to the iPhone app works without having WiFi in the room - that is direct camera to iPhone link?

Only infrastructure-mode is supported, i.e. you need an existing WiFi network.

Leica seems to have set a trend here; recent models from Fuji, Nikon, and Panasonic are also relying on infrastructure mode.

Cool, that wasn't the answer I was expecting.

(I know it's no good for those who can't use a hotspot with their service provider, but luckily I can.)

Really? With the new D-Lux, activating WiFi makes the camera discoverable as a WiFi host and I can transfer files directly without any other WiFi connection.

Thomi got there just before me ...

Actually that is not correct. After making posting that the local Leica store told me they has the Q available. It works as a host OR via your existing WiFi Lan. I tried the host and it's not too hard to do. In fact at present I have the first few shots copied onto my iPhone.

Awesome camera by the way. If a fixed focal length is OK with you you will not be disappointed. I have yet to get images on to my computer to look at them at any scale but using this camera is so intuitive. I opened the manual briefly but everything was so easy to figure out I needn't have bothered.

It doesn't quite have the rock solid feel of the M but it's better than anything else I've ever tried. Including the recent "hewn from a block of aluminium" one - which IS saying a lot.

Interesting. The spec sheet only mentions support for infrastructure mode and my iPhone didn’t recognise any of the cameras in the vicinity. Probably a setting issue.

Check out Thortsen Overgaard's Leica Q Review. He provided instructions about the iPhone setup with Q App using Q as host and remote connection with iPhone... Very simple steps; I successfully established the connection in the first attempt.

Thorsten, thanks for the instruction.

This setting does not need wifi.

The Leica Q wifi is a complete joke for sending images to the phone. Only 26 images at a time!!? I mean come on, they need to introduce an option to import all for the day, like Sony. Also it is very slow. Probably my only gripe with this camera, love everything else!

I am using "host" mode and "remote control", in the WLAN tab when asked to create a connection. That creates a Q Hotspot. Then, I connect to the new WLAN (may need to enter the PW first or scan the code) and thereafter launch the Q app on my iPhone. The "remote control" setup also lets you transfer images. I have not tried bulk transfers. My normal use case here is just to share the odd image.
