Guest Posted May 25, 2015 Share #41 Posted May 25, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) ... Got a M2&1.4/35 in terrible shape but working, for 500,- DM from a journalist in the seventies - sorry, but my understanding of the new "reality" was obstructed by that. Better let not know the journalist of the 1970s what Leica nowadays requires for the visually wrecked "Kravitz"-Edition of the Leica M-P. But you are on a significant artistic way. Keep in mind how Picasso's painter overall or even his brushes might have looked like after work. http://en.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-M/LEICA-M-P-CORRESPONDENT
Advertisement Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Hi Guest, Take a look here Henri Cartier-Bresson and his M6 and old Summicron. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Posted May 25, 2015 Share #42 Posted May 25, 2015 It needed fixing though. I remember Leitz Frankfurt wouldn't touch it and to a specialist in the railway-station neighborhood I hesitated to give my treasure. So I found a nice, retired gentleman in Wetzlar and his over 100 DM fee was a lot for me back then. He tought me the kind way early on never to rush folks in that town. Later I made two mistakes and two good things: sold the Leica and bought a Minox 35, which managed to underexpose HP4 at the beach and was traded in (still under warranty) for an old Nikon F. With more summer jobs & spending and even more luck, too I also got my first TLR Rollei

There is an uncoloured filter on the lens. It is a screw Summicron made in the 1960's (Nr 337xxxx according to my lens number reading...using PS4) the last made of the ltm Summicrons made from 1951 to early 1960's. Hi David, just looking at this older post of yours, I think that first 3 is actually a 1, so lens serial number 1,37x,xxx which would make it a 1956 Summicron Type 1 Collapsible... I don't think there were any of these made in the 3 million range? I've got a Type 1 in-bound at the moment, looking forward to trying it out
david strachan Posted September 1, 2020 Author Share #44 Posted September 1, 2020 (edited) Hi David Good to know you are sleuthing too and defer to your suggestion...makes good sense. I love my 1952 Summicron...bought a lot and returned them until i found a perfect scratch free and clean lens with metric scale. Then had it serviced for ultra smooth focusing. It's a beaut performer on all my Leica cameras. I really don't need another 50mm Summicron and feel no desire. Good luck with your acquisition...hope it's a gem. All best.. 105012 Posted September 1, 2020 Share #45 Posted September 1, 2020 Thanks David, cool to hear your enthusiasm for the Type 1 Summicron 50! I have a lot of 50's, including two modern Summicron's, but my favourite 50 is the red-scale 50 Elmar. I think that the Type 1 shares quite a few of the characteristics of the Elmar and therefore it has a chance to sit alongside or even displace the Elmar as the best 50 in my collection.
