cartierbresson Posted May 17, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 17, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm thinking of purchasing this used Leica M6 on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leica-M6-Classic-Silver-0-72-with-full-packing-/201350368187?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ee16acbbb Do I need to worry about the possibility of it being fake? The serial number on the camera is '218'. Aren't serial numbers supposed to be longer?
Advertisement Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Hi cartierbresson, Take a look here Buying a used Leica: what do I need to worry about?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pop Posted May 17, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 17, 2015 Do read the description of this item. The person who wrote that obviously has not even the foggiest notion about the camera. Edit: the serial number has been modified in the photogrph, it seems. Scroll down in the product description and you will find the serial number given as "218xxx" which usually means there are three more digits which are not disclosed in the ad. friedeye Posted May 18, 2015 Share #3 Posted May 18, 2015 Not a fake. Just an expensive, barely used camera with all the original trimmings (hence the expense).
spydrxx Posted May 18, 2015 Share #4 Posted May 18, 2015 Personally I wouldn't worry about anything. I'd do my research, ask the seller any questions I have, and make an informed decision. In this case you have 14 day return priviledge.
pop Posted May 18, 2015 Share #5 Posted May 18, 2015 This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available.

pixie Posted June 2, 2015 Share #7 Posted June 2, 2015 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I suggest buy from a regitered dealer with warranty. See if a return policy. If this is your first real rangefinder, a Leica-M, be prepared for a learning curve. No camera feels as smooth, so part of one but so hard to use! Steinway pianos are similar. . The older the M, the more worn and in some cases, problems with fragile glues in viewfinder optics.. I have a 1967 Leica M3 and know one wrong impact, could end our relationship.. Listen to slow speeds. The 1" speed should "seem" to run longer..zzzz! 1/15th should hear shutter brake, after shutter. If not may need a service. Check blinds are clean and taught, not drooping. See RF is aligned, at infinity. Run a few films thru..get decent processing, if you cannot. The M7 will not make shutter sounds.. A nice Leica M is for a lifetime, mine nearly outlived me..
