VictoriaC Posted April 30, 2015 Share #4 Posted April 30, 2015 Blowing a trumpet! it's up on the blog page: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-news/2015/04/test-review-leica-monochrom-246/ . . . and it's a thing of beauty and wonder Great article, thank you. Out of interest, were the sample photos originally JPGs or did you shoot DNGs and then process? What's your general preference?

johnbuckley Posted April 30, 2015 Share #6 Posted April 30, 2015 I am in. I love my Monochrom, but the ability to now use it precisely as I use my M -- with R lenses, tellys, etc. -- is too much to resist. Having it be built on the M-P (typ 240) platform, not the M, is a master stroke.
johnbuckley Posted April 30, 2015 Share #7 Posted April 30, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) p.s. Thank you, Jono. I joked a week ago when rumors were rampant, Anyone seen Jono? And now, of course....

jonoslack Posted April 30, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted April 30, 2015 Great article, thank you. Out of interest, were the sample photos originally JPGs or did you shoot DNGs and then process? What's your general preference? Hi There Thank You! They were (almost) all shot as DNG and then processed - If you're using a program like Lightroom or Capture One there's really no reason not to shoot as DNG - having said that the jpg files are really fine.
bocaburger Posted April 30, 2015 Share #11 Posted April 30, 2015 Basically it seems exactly what I think everyone expected. Although I think some were hoping to see an upgraded EVF.
viramati Posted April 30, 2015 Share #12 Posted April 30, 2015 Thanks Jono for the review. Looks like a great B&W taking machine though price wise well beyond what I can afford to pay on a niche camera at this moment in time.
fussgangerfoto Posted April 30, 2015 Share #13 Posted April 30, 2015 I'm on the list - it's exactly what I was hoping for (quiet shutter, hi-res LCD and the ability to use LV/EVF with my temperamental Noct).
Samir Jahjah Posted April 30, 2015 Share #14 Posted April 30, 2015 Too bad it has a LCD screen at the back....
pop Posted April 30, 2015 Share #15 Posted April 30, 2015 Too bad it has a LCD screen at the back.... A CRT would be way too bulky, I think.
Samir Jahjah Posted April 30, 2015 Share #16 Posted April 30, 2015 I agree - so better no screen at all!
Mornnb Posted April 30, 2015 Share #17 Posted April 30, 2015 Take away the sensor as well, people will use their imagination more.
zlatkob Posted April 30, 2015 Share #18 Posted April 30, 2015 Too bad it has a LCD screen at the back.... The LCD is a dream come true — it's the most useful addition to photographic technology since the invention of roll film in 1889.
IkarusJohn Posted April 30, 2015 Share #19 Posted April 30, 2015 Hi There Thank You! They were (almost) all shot as DNG and then processed - If you're using a program like Lightroom or Capture One there's really no reason not to shoot as DNG - having said that the jpg files are really fine. Another nice review, thanks Jono. Not tempted, as my Monochrom works just fine for all the reasons in your review of that camera! You mention jpg files, Jono. The original Monochrom (Henri) doesn't produce jpg files, and has that simplicity about its firmware (I'm sure it's anything but simple in reality). So is the new Monnochrom different in this respect? Cheers John

Cheers John Hi John Thanks for the kind words The original Monochrom will certainly produce jpg files (if you ask it nicely), just like the new one! They work just the same
