david perry Posted April 27, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mathieu at Mirrorlessons provides a fascinating and thoughtful insight into the experience of trying an M240 for the first time. The article is enhanced with some lovely images too. we’re talking great sharpness and very good dynamic range. But what surprised me the most was the colour rendition. The Leica M240 might be the digital camera with the smoothest colour rendition I’ve ever seen. I started to notice it right from the first photos I took in different scenarios. The colours of the DNG files (RAW) are really natural and very well-balanced: delicate tones, vibrant colours especially for the warm tints such as red or yellow. http://www.mirrorlessons.com/2015/04/22/leica-m-240-review/ Happy reading

MarkP Posted April 27, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) Quite a nice review. I was surprised to read the comment: "I go down to f16 without any diffraction issues". Perhaps this suggests how much better the Leica lenses are even at a 'compromised' aperture compared to most other lenses. I'll happily shoot at very small apertures if that is what is needed to get the correct DOF/exposurebut there is with doubt a loss of image quality at these small apertures. 01af Posted April 27, 2015 Share #3 Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) Mathieu at Mirrorlessons provides a fascinating and thoughtful insight into the experience of trying an M (Typ 240) for the first time. The colours of the DNG files (raw) are really natural and very well-balanced: delicate tones, vibrant colours especially for the warm tints such as red or yellow. Uh oh. Mathieu seems to have impaired colour vision. Those over-the-top reds and blues are everything but natural, delicate, or well-balanced. They're more like a blow in your face. With a custom-made camera profile, you can get good colours out of the M (Typ 240)—but not by default. Edited April 27, 2015 by 01af

JohnJWhite Posted April 27, 2015 Share #5 Posted April 27, 2015 Quite a nice review. I was surprised to read the comment: "I go down to f16 without any diffraction issues". Notice he didn't write "I go down to f16 without any diffraction". That suggests he didn't think it was an issue. Though perhaps he thinks Leica lenses have some magical diaphram blades.
