wlaidlaw Posted April 24, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know of an app which will export events from the horrible "Photos" and convert them to to folders, with the event name. I then propose to use Adobe Bridge in future as my library app. The new Photos app is totally useless to me, as Apple in their idiocy/arrogance have removed the ability to edit in an external application, such as Photoshop. The editing in Photos is a kiddies toy, barely good enough for playing around with iPhone photos, which I suppose, is what it is designed for. Very poor show by Apple. Didn't they learn their lesson when they dumbed down Final Cut Pro and had to do a rapid volte face? Obviously not! If they are selling professional computers (and they are), they need to have professional applications to go with them. Wilson
Advertisement Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Hi wlaidlaw, Take a look here ? App to export Events from the horrible "Photos" to folders for Adobe Bridge. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pico Posted April 24, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) Wilson, by 'events' do you mean Photos' 'projects'? We can work from there, I think. BTW, all the the originals and modified images that Photo sucks into its library are held in various folders inside the app's library, Photos Library.photoslibrary, (which is really a folder of folders) so if we get hopelessly mired in the app, we can at least rescue the originals, including DNG. I just exported several as 16-bit TIFF and it looks okay. Next I hope to find where/if Photos saves the modification steps for export to something useful as a macro. wlaidlaw Posted April 24, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) Pico, I am afraid I mean "Events" not projects, which was how iPhoto used to sort and organise photos and very useful it was. You can still opt to see your images sorted by Events in Photo. The Event is some sort of hidden tag on the image and is not related to the folder structure that you can see if you drill down into the package structure of the iPhoto library. The folder structure is totally date related and also holds additional folders of hierarchical modified image duplicates. I can move an event from one iPhoto library to another with "iPhoto library manager" application. Now this must be tracking the Event flags of the images and when you re-open the event in a different library, always shows the latest version of each image. If iPhoto library manager can do that, then a similar application should be able, by tracking those flags, to copy those images into a folder rather than a new event. I have 13,000+ images in my iPhoto library which is over 100GB, so moving the pictures individually is a hopelessly laborious task. wlaidlaw Posted April 25, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted April 25, 2015 There is a little bit of shareware called iPhoto to Disc that does the job perfectly. It is sitting churning away on my Retina MBP iPhoto library as I write this. I will tackle my bigger library on my iMac when I get back to the UK. That has about 20,000 images and is around 180GB.
