Advertisement Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Hi lauleica, Take a look here Leica MP Original. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted April 22, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 22, 2015 Isn't it the SAME MP ? I ask because the timing is partially unclear to me (looks as it was auctioned in 2014... the Hoogeven ad is current ?) MP are so rare and well documented cameras that imho is uneven that a fake is tentatively sold by dealers openly publicized on the net... sabears Posted April 22, 2015 Share #3 Posted April 22, 2015 We are sure of one thing: they are two different cameras.
lauleica Posted April 22, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted April 22, 2015 yes they look like two different cameras, but coincidentally the same numbers. I have no ideas when those items sold. I am neither the dealer nor the buyer. Perhaps another Watergate scandal... thanks for Luigi and Sabears ideas.
a911s Posted April 22, 2015 Share #5 Posted April 22, 2015 (edited) Black is much easier to fake if repainted. Harder to fake a stamped chrome top plate... Both of these cameras have P330 numbers under the inner bottom plate, so your guess is as good as mine on how there are two. sabears Posted April 22, 2015 Share #6 Posted April 22, 2015 You should contact Leitz: sometimes there were duplicates, even without the wellknown "asterisk". May be there is an interesting story behind, noone can tell. Also interesting to dismount cameras, useful even to have better photos of the inner crate. ...Here another source, they say that the camera is there :http://www.fengniao.com/secforum/1332851.htmlShop: Guangzhou Dashatou second road on the 12th Room 210, 2nd Floor, Building Tales TEL: 020-83852076 Hours 10: 00-18: 30 year-round ???the mystery deepens

Harder, indeed, but for the value of a MP is WORTH... ... anyway, I quote Stephen Gandy : "Buyer beware. For every MP that left the factory, there are probably 20 or more being offered for sale with the same serial number" Edited April 22, 2015 by luigi bertolotti
a911s Posted April 22, 2015 Share #8 Posted April 22, 2015 (edited) Agreed. Wasn't it a famous Leica specialist who said something like "Original Leica MPs for sale are very rare, all 5,000 of them..." I was offered a black one in 1982 for $20,000. Didn't have the money then. Not sure if that was a good or bad thing. Edited April 22, 2015 by a911s
sabears Posted April 23, 2015 Share #9 Posted April 23, 2015 There is I think another important point regarding rangefinder cameras. As you know we have m39 and bajonet mount, but in the first ones the chassis were always engraved with a serial number and then registered by the factory (and even betriebsk were marked inside), in the latter only a few were ( M2 and M3 were marked but in the first times only). So there are thousands of inside unmarked cameras ready to be engraved, after other modifications, with the number of a rare camera. This is the reason why Leica-M collectors look with more interest to original documents-boxes etc. regarding valuable items.
