Mpi96 Posted April 21, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 21, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey folks, I have a little problem. I bought a 35mm f/3.5 Summaron M-mount without goggles. It is cloudy as usual, the aperture blades were oily and the focus is too stiff. But the body is in very good condition. Yesterday I cleaned the aperture blades (very tricky to mount them correct ) and the second glass element. But I can't remove the rear element. Unfortunately this element is very cloudy. Second big problem: It is impossible to disassemble the focus unit, so I can't lubricate it. Has anyone an idea what to do? Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Hi Mpi96, Take a look here Summaron 35mm 3.5 lubricate helicoil. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Susie Posted April 21, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 21, 2015 Brave Man! If you unscrew the focussing knob (it has two small holes in the back for a pin spanner) you will then be able to completely unscrew the helix. Don't forget that there are two concentric threads: one gives the barrel its forward and back movement, the other moves the focus cam ring. When you come to put it back together again though, you might have to have several attempts as it is a multi start helix and you need to pick up the correct start. The lens mounting rings can freeze on and be very tight, so take care! Some early lenses, like the Summar, have the front element mounted in a carrier which was then spun over, so they are practically impossible to take apart. Although I am happy mounting old lenses in shutters and making lens flanges for old cameras, I have always had my Leica gear sercviced professionaly. tobey bilek Posted April 21, 2015 Share #3 Posted April 21, 2015 Make a witness mark with soft pencil so you get the helical back together the right way the first time.
Mpi96 Posted April 21, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted April 21, 2015 Hey, thanks for help! I didn't saw the screw. After I cleaned und lubricated the focus, its perfect smooth. I mark every ring and his "neighbor" with a B6 pencil. Even it is not necessary, I feel better, if I do that. Now my travel duo is complete: Welcome, dear visitor! Mpi96 Posted April 25, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted April 25, 2015 Yep, it is the Version without goggles, and I have a M3. But: My M3 has an 0.85 Viewfinder, so I have the 35mm framelines. Beautiful to use!

Beautiful to use! Oh - very interesting - a M3 that can be used in a pinch with a 35mm without external finder or goggles AND does great with 50 and longer! Nice! Mpi96, Was your M3 like this at purchase, or did you have the viewfinder changed? By whom? Didn't need to hear this , s-a
