platypus Posted April 20, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 20, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Autumn on the hoof and on the river....... Apologies, I am going to bore you all with yet another "life down on the farm" photo. My (feeble) excuse is that I like the way in which the colours of the cattle echo those of the willow trees along the river. It was late in the afternoon and getting dark in the valley, or so I thought, but the marvellous M9 and 75 Lux have picked up light where there was none for the eye to see. Welcome, dear visitor! euston Posted April 20, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 20, 2015 Lovely photo of a very interesting scene. I like the colours and the wide open spaces crop. I would never get bored looking at farming pictures as good as this.
Iduna Posted April 20, 2015 Share #3 Posted April 20, 2015 Dee, not boring at all on the contrary: this one is lovely pastellic and show a harmony of alike forms and colors. Bucolic scenes of the ancient painters copme to my mind.
pauledell Posted April 20, 2015 Share #4 Posted April 20, 2015 A great shot. Reminds me of a cattle drive in a western cowboy show on TV. Paul

k-hawinkler Posted April 22, 2015 Share #9 Posted April 22, 2015 Dee, That's a great picture of a rural lifestyle. Wonderful colors! Thanks.
allamande Posted April 22, 2015 Share #10 Posted April 22, 2015 It's a terrific image of a gorgeous place. Along with colors I love the undulating horizontal lines of the hills, the trees, the water, and the cattle, all in perfect rhythm. Dee, you are very lucky indeed. platypus Posted April 22, 2015 Author Share #11 Posted April 22, 2015 Bill and Ece...thank you! Living in this beautiful and remote rural landscape is a trade-off, like much else in life. It is very far from certain stimulating things such as art galleries, but maybe this is more frustrating than detrimental, as it means I must work all the harder for inspiration. But, honestly, sometimes I do wonder......
k-hawinkler Posted April 23, 2015 Share #12 Posted April 23, 2015 Dee, I understand. How many hours of driving is your next big city?
platypus Posted April 23, 2015 Author Share #13 Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) Dee, I understand. How many hours of driving is your next big city? Thanks K-H, Canberra (just a big country town) is 3 1/2 hours drive and can be done as a day trip....but once you get there you wonder why you bothered! (Apologies to Canberra) Edited April 23, 2015 by platypus
platypus Posted April 23, 2015 Author Share #14 Posted April 23, 2015 Speaking of Canberra we almost didn't have so far to go....back in 1901, when it was decided by the powers that be that Australia had to have a Capital City, the government considered a few different places. They wanted it to be roughly equi-distant from Sydney and Melbourne, not too far from the coast and amongst other things to have a plentiful supply of water and sand for building, and obviously a very brisk and refreshing climate was in order. Our great grandfather's grazing property was one of the final couple of sites on their shortlist, it was a close run thing....Australia's great big white elephant of a capital city was almost built right where those cows and calves are standing in that photo.
