dkCambridgeshire Posted April 19, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 19, 2015 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) My silver Leica T gained a small body 'scuff' which did not respond to cleaning with isopropyl alcohol or lighter fuel - thus was definitely 'in the metal'. Scuffs are an inevitable consequence of using any camera and I do not as yet have a case for the T to minimise the risk. I wondered if the scuff could be removed safely i.e. without ruining the original matt aluminium finish thus decided to experiment with a Cape Cod cloth - beloved of WIS watch enthusiasts for safely removing scuffs and scratches on e.g. s/s Rolex and Omega watch cases. Using a Cape Cod cloth on a thin scratch on the T's spare battery (the battery's aluminium plate base having the same texture as the camera case) proved that it did not compromise the aluminium's original matt finish - so I then lightly rubbed the T's body scuff with the Cape Cod cloth. The body scuff polished out after minimal rubbing leaving no trace - and the original body finish has not been compromised. If using the procedure yourself on light scuffs and at your own risk, please experiment first with the Cape Cod cloth on the battery base - to make sure you do not rub too hard and this risk compromising the matt finish.
