Advertisement (gone after registration)

I just purchased and installed an Epson Pro 850 scanner.

It seems to all work but for some reason the scanner icon does not appear in the dock and I have to go to dashboard to click on it to start the scan. Is this normal? How can I get the icon to reside in the dock for convenience?

Running a mac pro on 10.8.5 late 2013 model
