orla Posted April 18, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 18, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) … and I’m sinfully unfaithful with this lady and a ten-pack of Tri-X. This Nikon F2 I bought 1975 and was in professional production until late eighties. Now I got the reason to put in new batteries and clean off the dust. It has been some most enjoying moments, and it is curious how all still is in my hands - this camera is a prolonged part of the body, type. OK, this little deflection in life has tempted me to continue the analog/film adventure - but also with the use of my Leica glass. So, what will the recommendation be - which film-Leica do you think is for me…? Best/ Örjan Welcome, dear visitor! TomB_tx Posted April 18, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 18, 2015 If you are used to the Nikon, the heft of the M5 might be comfortable! It also has a good TTL meter system. If keeping a TTL meter is essential, take your choice of M5, M6, M7, current MP or even the old CL. The M7 adds auto exposure. The Zeiss Ikon ZM is equivalent to the M7, and I prefer its viewfinder, but they are now hard to find. These are all fine cameras, so go with whichever appeals to you. I have the M5, CL, M6 and Zeiss and enjoy using them all.
orla Posted April 19, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted April 19, 2015 Tank you TomB! I'm enticed to find an M6 in good (mint) condition, I think... But the Zeiss Ikon idea is also tempting! Always fun with new projects !
too old to care Posted April 19, 2015 Share #4 Posted April 19, 2015 (edited) I've only used one Leica since buying it new in the late 90's, a M6 TTL. So my experience may not be enough for you, but recently I dusted off an old Pentax K1000 and started using it again. The reason, it allows me to do so much more, such as macro shots. I love my M6, and it will not go away, but an SLR is also great, especially one like yours. Edited April 19, 2015 by too old to care
orla Posted April 20, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted April 20, 2015 Yes i can agree, there are a number of advantages with a former pro tool like this. An alternative path is to buy up on some good Nikon glass (as I've sold off my set of lenses years ago, but saved the camera with a 50 mm 2:8). Time will tell which pass my way first.... :-) /Örjan

orla Posted April 20, 2015 Author Share #7 Posted April 20, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) The M7 is a beautiful camera. And very tempting to buy something brand new, with all warranties - although I guess purchase a used Film Leica of what model is considered a low risk. Or...? ThePioneer Posted April 29, 2015 Share #9 Posted April 29, 2015 Since you have obviously been quite happy with the M9, not even seriously missing the F2 until you had nothing else on the table, I would just work with your Nikon until the M9 returns. Maybe a couple lenses to match what you are accustomed to when working with your M9. Of course used Leicas can often be recycled at close to the buying price if you make good buying decisions in the first place. In that case I think an M6 in good user condition is probably as risk free as it gets nowdays. It will probably sound a bit odd but I find my Zeiss Ikon to be a great backup for my M9. Heck! Sometimes it is the other way around. My M9 plays a great second fiddle to my Zeiss Ikon.
earleygallery Posted April 29, 2015 Share #10 Posted April 29, 2015 (edited) Any Leica body that will take your M lenses. Do you want a built in meter? Do you want auto exposure? Do you want new or used? those are the key issues to help decide which bodies to choose from. But it's a shame not to use that Nikon.
