McGirton Posted April 8, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 8, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) As the title states, is it possible to put a M6 TTL top plate on a M7? I am thinking about buying and painting / coating one to customise my M7 with it. Or get a millennium edition top plate. That version has the M2 rewind knob though, so I am not sure if that is a problem. I am aware the M7 is a bit higher than the older M cameras, but what about the TTL? Does anybody have knowledge / experience with this kind of operation? Thanks in advance!
Advertisement Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Hi McGirton, Take a look here M6 TTL top plate on M7?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted April 13, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 13, 2015 I think size-wise, the M6TTL and M7 plates are exactly the same (both slightly taller than the standard M6 and MP) but I'm not sure if the on/off switch on the M7 necessitates a different size hole for the shutter release. Regarding the Millennium top plate and its M2/MP style rewind knob, I don't think it would be a problem in principle (after all, the Millennium edition shows that it can be done with the taller M6TTL/M7 camera body) but it's worth noting that Leica do not offer the "MP style" rewind for the M7 as an à la carte option (whereas they do offer the "M7 style" slanted rewind as an option for the MP) so there may be a technical reason why it is not possible.
