ho_co Posted March 22, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted March 22, 2015 That's funny. I've checked "enable private messages," but you're right, the warning pops up that I can't receive them.
pop Posted March 22, 2015 Share #6 Posted March 22, 2015 The number of PMs you can keep in your message box is quite small. Try and delete some messages, perhaps?
Guest Posted March 22, 2015 Share #7 Posted March 22, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sponsoring members have a bigger PM account, too There are many more sponsoring members than one would think, because they can chose to be visible as such, or not
ho_co Posted March 22, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted March 22, 2015 Philip-- Must be a really small number--I have 0 unread, 0 total PMs. tri-- I do need to become a sponsoring member. Thanks for the reminder!
pop Posted March 22, 2015 Share #9 Posted March 22, 2015 Howard - I will alert Andreas to your predicament. I think I have found the cause but I can not fix it.
ho_co Posted March 24, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted March 24, 2015 Philip and Andreas have fixed the problem with my ability to receive private messages, so feel free to PM me of any interest. These churches are simple wooden affairs from the outside but beautifully decorated inside. Their founders were Polish and Czech, and the churches are painted as a remembrance of churches in the "Old Countries." Although neo-gothic outside, the interiors border on the baroque. (See the links I posted in the first post above.) They're well worth a visit for anyone. On our Leica group's previous foray to see them some years back, there was even one visitor who flew in from Detroit, and he left satisfied. He has notified us that the only reason he's not coming back is that he has a previous commitment that weekend.
ho_co Posted March 24, 2015 Author Share #11 Posted March 24, 2015 These 2004 pictures originated in an M6, were converted to Kodak's PCD format, thence to Photoshop. Because of that, their quality isn't as good as I'd like. But they do give an idea of what one of these churches has to offer. Note that the stained glass window dates from 1899 (a long time ago for us Texans). And the columns in the last picture are actually wooden but painted to look like stone. Welcome, dear visitor! farnz Posted March 24, 2015 Share #12 Posted March 24, 2015 It's a shame Texas is very slightly out of my way, Howard, the painted churches look wonderful and I'd have loved to have joined you. Pete.
ho_co Posted March 24, 2015 Author Share #13 Posted March 24, 2015 (edited) Thanks for the thought, Pete. We'll miss you. Yeah, it's a long way for something less than two centuries old. Maybe the weekend we're out there you should drop by Stonehenge for us? Edited March 24, 2015 by ho_co
Sandokan Posted April 12, 2015 Share #14 Posted April 12, 2015 Sounds interesting. If it coincides with one of my trips to Dallas, I will stay the weekend and join you. Chances are low though.
ho_co Posted April 12, 2015 Author Share #15 Posted April 12, 2015 (edited) Ravi-- I'd love to meet you. I hope you can make it, but we'll count you as tentative. I'll send you a fuller data sheet if you can PM me your email address. That is, if PMs are possible with the new forum software. . . . And I don't know how much time you'll have, but this section of Texas is three to four hours from Dallas by car. I hope you can make it! ho_co Posted May 14, 2015 Author Share #16 Posted May 14, 2015 Just one last reminder of this visit to a little-known aspect of European influence in Texas. We've so far got about a dozen people confirmed, but there's still room for more. Basic details are above; PM me if you're interested.
ho_co Posted May 26, 2015 Author Share #17 Posted May 26, 2015 (edited) Despite the recent flooding in some parts of Texas, the weather outlook for Schulenburg this Saturday is still decent, so the Painted Churches Photo Shoot is still on the schedule as of Tuesday the 26th of May. Thanks to everyone who has contacted me with concerns and questions, but we're still "Go!" Edited May 26, 2015 by ho_co
