Overgaard Posted April 6, 2015 Share #21 Posted April 6, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Home insurance cover most equipment unless it is categorized as "special collection" or has a large percentage of the overall values. It is good to ask the insurance company it it is covered as is. I have heard stories of people who didn't have coverage for their glass antiques because those were classified as "special collection". Too late to find out when it's gone. Generally I don't have insurance unless it is by law or an accident could ruin me. House insurance I have in case the house burns. Car insurance is by law. Some professionals have equipment insurance covering any incident, anywhere int he world. But as those are often 4% of the new value of the equipment a year(!), it's quite expensive and usually only used by those who lease equipment and thus have to provide insurance for the leasing company. I'm not a pro, but the special rider to my home policy covers all gear worldwide under all conditions, with no deductible, and costs about 1.5% per year (of the value I list). I used to spend more than that on film years ago….no brainer for me in the digital age. Jeff

AlanJW Posted April 8, 2015 Share #24 Posted April 8, 2015 "Valuable Items" from Chubb, with replacement value and covers all risks, including accidental damage (not deliberate of course). It is a blanket $$ policy rather than an amount per item. Have not had a claim. but Chubb covers house and were very reasonable when I had some storm damage. sanyasi Posted April 9, 2015 Share #25 Posted April 9, 2015 You don't indicate whether you are using the camera equipment for personal or profession purposes. It is my understanding that generally, you have to obtain a special policy once you are using the equipment as a professional. I appreciate knowing whether those who are covering their equipment on their homeowner's policies are professionals. I purchased my coverage through the ASMP program. So far so good. I am in the U.S.
