dave.gt Posted March 10, 2015 Share #1 Posted March 10, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I post this thread at the risk of it being a really dumb question. But I am in the market for at least one R lens, having sold my 80 Lux, and I am thinking of the future with the lens I may purchase. Is it possible or recommended to fit R lenses on the S bodies? If not, I may stock up on another R8/R9 body or two.
Advertisement Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Hi dave.gt, Take a look here R Lenses on S/S2 body?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted March 10, 2015 Share #2 Posted March 10, 2015 No. The register distance is shorter (on the R). The lens would have to be mounted somewhere in the middle of the mirror box.
topoxforddoc Posted March 11, 2015 Share #3 Posted March 11, 2015 You can use lenses of 180 focal length and longer on a S body using a Lei-ko adapter. You can see more on my previous threads http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-s-typ-006-s2-forum/344168-lei-ko-r-lens-s-adapter.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-s-typ-006-s2-forum/346381-s-006-280-4-apo-telyt.html
dave.gt Posted March 11, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted March 11, 2015 James, Charley, Thank you very much for that information. It is amazing how much you guys know!
earleygallery Posted March 11, 2015 Share #5 Posted March 11, 2015 Well, Charlie knows a lot more about it than me (learn something every day as they say).
adan Posted March 11, 2015 Share #6 Posted March 11, 2015 Ahhh - so when Leica designed in the "focus past infinity" capability way back when - it wasn't, as originally claimed, to compensate for thermal expansion. But to make the lenses forward-compatable with an as-yet unimagined oversized digital body. Shorter R lenses will be limited to more or less a macro range, however, on the S. John McMaster Posted March 11, 2015 Share #7 Posted March 11, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sadly no, they need to go even further towards infinity ;-) I have a Modular 1.4x focussing unit that has been calibrated at Wetzlar for the S, my untouched 2x doesn't and the 280/4 needs the 1.4x convertor to focus to infinity. john
wildlightphoto Posted March 12, 2015 Share #8 Posted March 12, 2015 ... the 280/4 needs the 1.4x convertor to focus to infinity. I'm curious which version of the 280/4 you have. My older lens (originally 3rd-cam) focusses farther past infinity than the later (ROM) sample.
John McMaster Posted March 12, 2015 Share #9 Posted March 12, 2015 Early (3622***) 3-cam, it focusses past infinity (as does the 2x Modular focus) but not enough so to allow S/Lei-Ko to focus to infinity. john
