MacSpikes Posted March 5, 2015 Share #1 Posted March 5, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have two Leica R9/DMR cameras and both have the same problem (which suggests it is something I am doing wrong). After placing battery, SD card and switching the camera to "on", I am able to take one picture only. Usually you will here the shutter cocking again, but not this time. Silence is all I get. What am I doing wrong? Could the battery be the problem?

topoxforddoc Posted March 5, 2015 Share #2 Posted March 5, 2015 Have you accidentally moved the double exposure slider under the manual shutter wind lever? Also take the battery out and take the DMR apart from the body. Clean all the gold contacts with a small cotton bud dipped in something like isopropyl alcohol (or use a pencil eraser) and reassemble. Dirty contact can do the same.
MacSpikes Posted March 5, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted March 5, 2015 About the double exposure slider: I understood it needs to be shifted in a way that the silver rewind button is exposed and that this button needs to be in upward position. Is that correct?

Is that correct? Yes, slide it anti-clockwise, so that the button is exposed.
dpitt Posted March 5, 2015 Share #5 Posted March 5, 2015 When you move the lever to cock the shutter into the open position, you will only get one shot. After that you have to cock the shutter manually before itwill fire again. This preserves battery power. If you do not want that, close the lever and try to shoot. It should now cock the shutter automatically after each shot.
MacSpikes Posted March 9, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted March 9, 2015 With some lenses the camera will take a picture and cock the shutter again. With my apo-makro 100mm it will not and show an "error 2" on the display. Maybe it has a mechanical issue somewhere, so I guess I will try and have the two cameras overhauled first. stuny Posted March 9, 2015 Share #7 Posted March 9, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yikes! I hope the error 2 message does not persist. I got that message a few years ago and the "cure" was a replacement of the mother board. There are no mother board spares in stock.

Assuming your apo-makco 100mm is a ROM lens (11352-ROM), This is probably being caused by a bad or unreliable connection between the camera and the ROM contacts on the lens. Alcoholic wipes is the answer. You need to clean ALL of the gold plated contacts on the camera and lens. I do this on mine the day before my birthday every year. I'm sure someone will chime in and tell me that's not frequent enough but so far so good. Edited March 10, 2015 by sc_rufctr
MacSpikes Posted March 11, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted March 11, 2015 One of the R9/DMR combos started to breathe again after a full wipe-up with isopropyl alcohol. The second one keeps mentioning the "error 2" so I brought it to a camera repair man. Maybe the onboard battery (the ones that powers the day/date memory) needs to be replaced, but I'll leave that to him. We'll see, but obviously I hope it can be rescued.
