Millberg Posted February 27, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 27, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I would love to get some help from all you pro's out there I've been using LR5 for a while and recently did I buy the photo suite PS and LR from Adobe on a monthly subscription basis. As I already had LR installed didn't I install LR again from CC. As LR6 is approaching and updates are included in my subscription do I need to know how I install LR from CC without ruining my plug-ins, presets and settings. Anyone have any ideas? /Lars
Advertisement Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Hi Millberg, Take a look here CC and LR. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sanyasi Posted February 28, 2015 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2015 I am not sure I totally understand your situation. I also went CC with Photoshop. I noticed that my photo intake program (Photo Mechanic) and raw converters were opening Photoshop 6 rather than Photoshop CC. Both versions of Photoshop were on my computer. To avoid those sorts of issues, I simply removed Photoshop 6 and made adjustments to what editing program was opened. It eliminated all problems, so I would recommend uninstalling LR 5 (stand alone version) and just run LR within CC.
Millberg Posted February 28, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted February 28, 2015 Should I just uninstall LR5 and reinstall it from CC? I'm worried about my presets etc. How can I secure my existing settings when uninstall and re-install?
kdriceman Posted February 28, 2015 Share #4 Posted February 28, 2015 I believe that when LR6 comes out, you will be given the opportunity to download it through your CC subscription. Download it and it should import your settings from LR5. There is no reason to un-install LR5, it can just sit there on your computer idle. If it doesn't automatically open your LR5 catalog, you can choose open your LR catalog with LR6. It will create a new upgraded catalog for LR6 to use and should leave an un altered copy of the catalog compatible with LR5. . Some plugins will continue to work with LR6, some may need to be updated.
Millberg Posted February 28, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted February 28, 2015 Thank you very much. I like the idea of idling and just know that it will take care of itself.
Jeff S Posted February 28, 2015 Share #6 Posted February 28, 2015 I always keep the older version of LR side-by-side with the new one until I'm sure the new one satisfies in all ways, after which I delete the old version. But I run LR standalone, not through the cloud. Jeff
kdriceman Posted February 28, 2015 Share #7 Posted February 28, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Even with CC you will download a full version of LR which will stay on your computer. The only difference is that you should not have to pay an incremental pmt for the upgrade to LR6 as you are already paying monthly.

Yes, you download a full version and that one will stay on your computer but your license can run out regardless. If you have bought LR 5 you can use it indefinitely while if you have a subscription then if you ever let your subscription lapse the functionality of LR 5 will be restricted – you can still export files but you cannot change the develop settings. Jeff S Posted March 2, 2015 Share #9 Posted March 2, 2015 Exactly why I stick with standalone LR. Jeff

This is bothersome for sure. I have relented to the Adobe subscription model, but still have LR 4 and LR5 on my computers as well as PS CS6. Economically, I'm ok with the $10/mo or so that Adobe charges and I sort of like the idea of automatically getting updated versions of the products. But, I have found a new issue with CC. I have been running CC (PS and LR) on my desktop for a few months now without any issue and have been using PS6 and LR5 (independent versions) on my laptop. However, I wanted to begin using CC on my laptop so I could de-activate and use that copy of PS on a 3rd computer. However, the CC desktop application will not download onto my laptop - the installer crashes every time I try. I've tried all the Adobe suggested fixes (create a new account on the computer, dive into the library file system and delete/rename files as suggested by Adobe), but it won't download, hence I can't use CC on the laptop. This happens once in awhile with Adobe products, they conflict with certain files or apps running on your computer. Usually I have been able to simply install it using a new user account on a Mac but not this time. The Adobe forums are full of complaints about this problem so it is not a unique issue, but apparently Adobe struggles to find a lasting fix. Short of either wiping my Macbook Air and reinstalling everything (which I do not want to do) or spending hours on the phone with Adobe tech support, I'm not going to be able to get CC to run on my laptop and won't be able to use CC on that computer. Very, very annoying. The good news is that Adobe did validate my copy of PS 6 on the 3rd computer (Yes, I decided to install it and give it a try). This may be a response to their problems with the CC Installer because when I have previously tried to activate a 3rd copy of PS it has not been allowed by Adobe. Bottom line, CC is not as straightforward and convenient as Adobe wants us to think.
gyoung Posted April 23, 2015 Share #11 Posted April 23, 2015 I have a CC subscription for Lightroom and Photoshop and today I installed Lightroom 6, and it left 5.7 installed as well! I just uninstalled 5.7 from Windows Control Panel and all is well. I also still have my old Photoshop CS2 running happily alongside CC, the new one doesn't have the Twain interface which I find very useful to drive the scanners direct from within Photoshop. falkk Posted April 24, 2015 Share #12 Posted April 24, 2015 Is there any chance, that Leica provides a LR6 license to registered users - instead of a LR5 license? Falk

Hi, I take it you mean the CC installer application, but in my case LR CC itself failed to open after download to my MacBookPro, after a success on my MacPro. A quick google solved it with this info from Adobe... https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/cc-applications-crash-immediately-launch.html John Edited April 24, 2015 by jpattison
kdriceman Posted April 25, 2015 Share #14 Posted April 25, 2015 Yes, it was the CC installer. I upgraded to a current MacBook Air and it works fine now.
