Minilux Q regarding E02 Error

I am shooting more with the Minilux now, and quite enjoy it. This morning I took it out, and briefly it would stop operating and show the E02 error, but then commenced to work as usual. It was quite cold (below freezing).

Is the famous E02 error that killed so many Minilux something that comes and stays or is this brief appearance a sign that mine will go soon too? Only curious because I am leaving on a trip next week and wonder if I can risk taking it....

I shot it over the weekend and see what happens. Still, feedback from experienced Minilux users would be appreciated.

It's a well known issue with the Minilux. My first Minilux (brand new) got the error from the very first picture. It was replaced with another new Minilux that is still working but I do not use it anymore since I'm using the CM's.

Hi! Thanks!

The Minilux seems to work fine now, but I was wondering if complete EO2 failure is immanent. The CM looks fine - just a bit pricey, and I have a Contax T3 as main compact for important work.

My Minilux worked flawlessly for several months. The E02 happened suddenly while I was photographing mountain scenery on a hike. Leica repaired it under warranty. I've never heard of an intermittent E02.

Several years later the Minilux was stolen in a burglary. It was on a sofa next to a Leica M6 with a 50mm Summicron. The culprit took the Minilux but not the M6.

The story at one time was that the E02 error was caused by a faulty ribbon cable connecting the main body to the lens module. If this is indeed the case it would seem that the cable (or its connector) is beginning to fail; to my mind I fear that this may not augur well for the future.

Dear all

I'm an old and very interested reader of this forum but this is my first post.

About Minilux E02, is true that the problem is the ribbon cable that conect the lens module, is weak and a bit short for its movement and elasticity and because that it can cut the thin metalic conductors.

Here in Porto, Portugal, there is a small repair company that easily change the ribbon and so fix the problem.

By the way, Leica CM can suffer the same problem, I have both, Minilux and CM, fixed by changing the ribbons, for a price as far as I remember, around seventy Euros each.

Antonio, welcome to the Forum.

That is very useful indeed to know. Could you give us the details of the company that can do this repair work?

Antonio and Masjah, thank you!

I have fitted my Minilux with a tubus to take filters - now I can leave the camera in stand-by (lens does not retract) and hopefully avoid the error for some time to come...

I want to take it day to day again but dare not because I am worried about the E02 issue which may come suddenly.

If you don’t use the Minilux, it doesn’t matter if it is broken or not. Therefore, you have nothing to lose, and much to gain, if you start using the camera regularly.

I sent my Leica Minilux for repair to Pedro Dolores (leicareparacao@gmail.com) in September 2019, he received the package and we exchanged emails until Nov 5, 2020 where he told me that he was working at only 50% capacity because he was having a “a big personal problem”. Since then, I never heard back from him, sent a few emails but never got an answer… I don’t know if something happened to him or if he just kept the camera. Does anyone know something about this?

I am currently in the middle of repairing my Minilux e02 failure. Has one here attempted this?

With the camera nearly fully disassembled, I face two issues. Firstly, two tiny very soft screws that have stripped, and will need to be replaced on reassembly. Finally, the impending soldering of the chips on the new lens tape. I have not yet found the tear in the tape, but given the error I know it must be there somewhere.

Good Health and Best Wishes,

Emily66  ✌️

Cyrus Korn, did you ever hear back from Pedro? I was just in the middle of contacting him about repairing my Minilux. I literally put two rolls through the prick and she quit on me... It is in pristine condition otherwise :(

It would be a shame if people gave up on these beautiful cameras
