Advertisement Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Hi beekan, Take a look here Leitz Wetzlar Leica Elmarit R 24mm f2.8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TomB_tx Posted January 26, 2015 Share #2 Posted January 26, 2015 I've used on for a few years. When I got it (used) the diaphragm wouldn't open fully at f2.8, so all openings were about a stop underexposed on my R6. After DAG corrected it I used it a lot more, and for me the sharpness was fine - and overall the images were better than with my Canon/Pentax wides of the same era. I hear modern wides are significantly better, but I don't care - I already have this 24 and it does fine. For digital I use it on my Sony A7 with good results.
jip Posted January 26, 2015 Share #3 Posted January 26, 2015 It's a fine lens, used it on the R8 and film, it's no where near as good as modern wideangles though. It renders nicely though.

james.liam Posted January 28, 2015 Share #5 Posted January 28, 2015 Any proposal Wide angle leica not so expensive ? Not really, at least the ones worth having. The 24/2,8 was a Minolta design, IIRC. Decent for its time, not superior to its contemporary Nikon 24/2.8 in terms of resolution. Rendering is another matter. The 28 Elmarit v.1 was another average performer, wholly outclassed by its v.2 successor--now priced accordingly. The 19 v.2 and 15 Elmarits are equally stellar and expensive. tntrue Posted January 28, 2015 Share #6 Posted January 28, 2015 The later iteration of this lens that I owned was noticeably better in quality than two copies of earlier iterations that I tested. I read somewhere that Leica had to source different glass a few times over the years, and that the optics were tweaked a bit with each change. At no aperture did my copy give corner-to-corner sharpness. It became increasingly unsharp (gracefully so) going away from the center of the frame toward the edges, a condition made more obvious by the fact that it was insanely sharp in the center--no surprise, as it is described as a reportage lens. I imagine it would be a superb lens for weddings and such, but it was not as great for landscape and architecture, which is why I replaced mine with another R-mount option. lct Posted January 29, 2015 Share #7 Posted January 29, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes the first version (11221) of the Elmarit-R 24/2.8 cannot compete with its M counterpart by far. I own one sample of it and found it rather soft on my 5D, especially on edges and corners. The second version (11331) of the same lens has a better reputation due better coating seemingly. I have no experience with the latter though and its optics are the same AFAIK so i would rather choose an Elmarit-R 28/2.8 v2 (11259 or 11333) as suggested previously. tobey bilek Posted March 6, 2015 Share #8 Posted March 6, 2015 The floating element design changes the zone of focus away from the center. Mine was sharp in the center, but edges at the same distance were soft. However edges closer in wiretap, but center was soft. It was a common complaint. Sold it. svenning Posted March 10, 2015 Share #10 Posted March 10, 2015 Be carefull with using the 24mm Elmarit-r on a full-frame Canon camera! I cannot use the 24 mm Elmarit on my Canon 5Dmk2, because the rear element of the 24mm Elmarit-r will hit the swinging mirror of the Canon 5DMk2 camera. It might be another story with the Canon 6D? Anyway - take care! Best regards - Svenning, Denmark.
