Popular Post farnz Posted February 18, 2015 Popular Post Share #82 Posted February 18, 2015 . I met this man sitting on a park bench in town and struck up conversation in the hope that he might not mind me taking his picture. He didn't mind. He was sitting there watching a group of youths because he was waiting to point out to the police two of them who were involved in smashing a neighbour's front window that morning. The police were on their way he told me. Welcome, dear visitor! Temporarily ran out of Ilford XP2 so started on the first of the two Kodak equivalents, only to find that the Kodak has a totally different grain and contrast to the Ilford. Jury's out as to which I prefer, but perhaps the Ilford has the edge. Ric
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Guest Posted February 23, 2015 Share #85 Posted February 23, 2015 Good you prefer the ILFORD version of C41 B&W film, because Kodak discontinued the BW400CN film late 2014. I had a few people tip me off on Flickr too. Since my recent return to film I've shot about seven reels of XP2 and am half way through my second BW400CN, a pair of which I bought back in November to see... So far I easily prefer the contrast of the XP2, as the Kodak film gives (to my eyes) way too much contrast. Like a badly adjusted b&w TV back in the day. So last week I bought a ten pack of XP2. I know my place in this universe... Ric

Guest Posted March 14, 2015 Share #90 Posted March 14, 2015 Someone says is a film made following the old Ilford HP5 formulahttp://www.kentmere.co.uk/products/product.asp?n=68 I've stuck to C41 processed b&w film so far (mainly Ilford XP2) but the look and grain of a proper b&w is calling out to me. Just found out that my local lab can also process true b&w, so I'm in luck. Ric

Guest Posted March 28, 2015 Share #96 Posted March 28, 2015 Sort of a portrait: LorenzVS in the New Orleans tower in Rotterdam. Leica M, Summicron-M 28mm ASPH. I love the intimacy of what's still a wide angled shot taken from some distance from the subject. But somehow I'm still "right there" with him. Classy. You know, this photo has inspired to see how I may be able to replicate the look. Might be a bit hard around here, this being on a Swiss alp and all, but I'll see what I can do. Living in Telly Tubby Land has its scenic advantages, but vistas across cityscapes ain't one of them. Ric

Bright, sunny and tricky light just after a rainy morning. So wondered if the shadow on wet road trick might work out. A few composition problems, as ever with me, but happy with the result. jip Posted March 29, 2015 Share #98 Posted March 29, 2015 Nice Photo Ric, But for me road leading into the distance, and her shadow are distracting us from her. Thanks for your compliment on my photo, once I'm on a proper computer and not my phone like now. I will give you a more detailed explanation on how I chose the composition etc.
