Thank you very much for your feedback and telling illustrations. Good to even see an M8 example! This is very helpful. I can see that for the detection of blurriness such a resolution is offering a lot of detail. I have seen that your example of the M8 is a DNG file. Do you think that the standard JPG fine files (3936 x 2624) coming out of the M8, about 5.5 MB as well as those being cropped down to about 3 MB still look good? With 5120 x 2880 the Retina screen resolution is much higher! 

The answer is yes -- the jpgs look very good.  Here is the same 1:1 M8 image of only the 3936x2624 jpg which accompanied the DNG file (Lightroom stores the DNG and jpg together anyway, displaying the jpg for processing).  As with the DNG file, the whole image adds a gray border and tool bar that don't take up excessive screen real estate, IMHO.  For the M9, a 1:1 an example with 5212x3468 resolution.  The latter exceeds the screen resolution, so you need to click and drag a bit to see the entire image at the 1:1 setting.  No problem -- you can set it on fit or fill and get the whole image, and it still looks great and fully adequate for evaluation or processing.
