Does Leica Ball Head 38 mount directly to Gitzo 1521T?

If I purchase a Leica Ball Head 38 will it screw onto a gitzo 1521T? I am not sure how standardized tripods and ballheads are. I know with some cameras you need base plates, but I dont think that is necessary here (or is it?)

I'd like to try out the leica ball head 38. anyone with experience on it?

The head will fit in the sense that it will screw on without any problem but it will possibly foul the tripod legs when they are collapsed and folded back (I assume the 1521T is a traveller tripod).

I tried the 38 and 24 heads recently and wasn't that impressed. The quick release system seemed fiddly to me and I wasn't convinced by the little 'plate' as a means of attaching the camera to the head. IMO there are better heads available for this kind of money.

I've been doing a little "research" on these ballheads and found this older thread.

Just curious...can you please describe how those plates work with the ballhead.  I'm not sure what screws and/or slips into what!?  That is, what is on the camera, if anything?

Trying to decide if I'm better off just getting a plate from RRS or Peak that I can screw onto my M-P (240) and use with my RRS ballheads.  (I'm thinking I won't want an L-plate for my Leica since I won't use it as much as I use my DSLR's with the tripods.

Thanks!
