Iven-t Posted July 6, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 6, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everybody, I´ve just shooted an unspectaculary scenario with my Leica M 240 and three lenses at f 2.8. I will just know, which of the three 50´s do you prefer and why? All three shoots ooc, with only disabling exif data in capture one. Thx Iven Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Hi Iven-t, Take a look here Which 50 do you prefer?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Ansel_Adams Posted July 6, 2014 Share #2 Posted July 6, 2014 I prefer shot 1 because the tree is in focus and bokeh balls are nicer. In the other two almost everything is out of focus. Other than that, its not really that useful a comparison as I would never shoot a scene like that at 2.8 and focus on the tree! Whats the point? rodoleica Posted July 6, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 6, 2014 I prefer the lowest one.
Iven-t Posted July 6, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted July 6, 2014 Thank you Adams. The Focus is on the Birds. It is just a test shoot. You´re right. The scene is not the best. I have three lenses and I just want to figure out which one I should sell. One ist the Noctilux 0,95, one the 50 Asph Lux and one the Elmar- M coded. Guest Ansel_Adams Posted July 6, 2014 Share #5 Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) Its very hard to tell which is which using such comparisons. Not so say that there aren't differences... its just that they are usually so minor compared to other factors its not really worth it. Lens selection is always a personal choice at the end of the day. Looking at the above seems like the Elmar-M is a real bargain. otto.f Posted July 6, 2014 Share #6 Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) I prefer the second one, which is not to say that I prefer that lens, but at least that capture. It seems to have a bit more bite in the main subject and the tree Edited July 6, 2014 by otto.f
Iven-t Posted July 6, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted July 6, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok. I think the second one has much more contrast than the other one´s. The third one I don´t like the Bubble´s. This was not expected before I started the Comparison.
luigi bertolotti Posted July 6, 2014 Share #8 Posted July 6, 2014 I prefer the lowest one. + 1 (matter of taste... btw, of the MANY 50s I have... all not contemporary.... the preferred ones are a Summicron Canada and an old Summilux from 1962... but love them all, included the venerable Summar f2... )
Jennifer Posted July 6, 2014 Share #9 Posted July 6, 2014 Personally, I prefer the second, but it's a pretty close call. I guess you chose f/2.8 as that's the lowest common factor of all three? Come on, tell us which is which, though I bet I've chosen the Elmar-M which I understand is technically the "least good" of the three.
albireo_double Posted July 6, 2014 Share #10 Posted July 6, 2014 I prefer the second, for higher contrast and less blur in the background.
Guest Ansel_Adams Posted July 6, 2014 Share #11 Posted July 6, 2014 1. Summilux 2. Elmar 3. Noctilux
frankwaller Posted July 6, 2014 Share #12 Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) prefer pic 2 my guess at the lens/pics: 1 lux 2 nlux 3 elmar It's a tough call, but the nlux(f1) is magical to my eyes, enjoy frank Edited July 6, 2014 by frankwaller
tobey bilek Posted July 6, 2014 Share #13 Posted July 6, 2014 #2 lacks contrast #1 is not as sharp as #3 if I look at the bird feeder which I assume was the focus point. It is really hard to evaluate with small computer images. My favorites are 50 1.4 ASPH and 50 2.8 last version. By F 4.0 they are difficult to separate and the collapsible travels a whole lot better. lct Posted July 6, 2014 Share #14 Posted July 6, 2014 1. Pic 1 (Elmar v2?). Smoother bokeh. Misses a bit of contrast. Easy to adjust in PP. 2. Pic 3 (Summilux asph?). Better contrast. Star shaped bokeh. 3. Pic 2 (Noctilux asph?). I have no experience with this lens. Good contrast. Disappointing bokeh.

Gerard Posted July 6, 2014 Share #16 Posted July 6, 2014 In response to Iven,,, I like the first due to the way it handles highlights. I find bokeh of second quite disturbing. G
Iven-t Posted July 6, 2014 Author Share #17 Posted July 6, 2014 Ok first one is noctilux 0,95 second elmar - m third lux asph But I don´t have a favorite! I don´t know. Since I have the Noctilux the Lux is in the box and was never on the cam! The Elmar-M is so little. ????
BerndReini Posted July 6, 2014 Share #18 Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) I can't really tell anything from these photos at f2.8, but what I can tell you is that you should keep the Summilux aspherical and sell the other two because it is the best compromise in speed, weight, and image quality. I own a couple of fifties myself, and I understand your dilemma, but in the end, when you travel and want to take only one lens, the 50lux is the winner. Guest Ansel_Adams Posted July 6, 2014 Share #19 Posted July 6, 2014 Ok first one is noctilux 0,95 second elmar - m third lux asph But I don´t have a favorite! I don´t know. Since I have the Noctilux the Lux is in the box and was never on the cam! The Elmar-M is so little. ???? Ha! I got the Nocti and Lux the wrong way round but got the Elmar right! Yes, your choice does seem to be between the Nocti and the Lux.... if you are not using the Lux then there is your answer.
frankwaller Posted July 6, 2014 Share #20 Posted July 6, 2014 Gentlemen, ahem, time to invest in an Elmar? :-D
