My friend who is on holiday in Vietnam just emailed me about a broken battery latch on her X2. What should I tell her? Here is her email: Disaster! I was just removing the battery in my Leica and the little plastic thing that keeps the battery in place (with springs) broke off! I didn't use force or anything . Do you think normal camera shops can fix this (ie somewhere in Hanoi)? Otherwise I might be able to fix the battery in place somehow (still works if you push battery in). Boo! AndreasB Posted October 8, 2013 Share #4 Posted October 8, 2013 It may be better to put approximately 1mm paper or rubber under the lid before you close and tape it. With this you press the battery little more into the springs what gives also more secure contact to the contact-pins. If you only close the lid there may be connection problems if there is a weaker spring in the cam. With the above described solution I had no problems for 2 weeks with my former X1 in winter holidays. BAASCH Posted June 20, 2016 Share #6 Posted June 20, 2016 (edited) This happened to my X2 just now. I wrote to Leica asking for a spare part. Does anyone here have experience installing it? Sending it off to Leica might mean I can't use it for months... and closing the lid is a good workaround in the meantime. It took a matter of a few days, including post to and from. Depends of course if there is a repair place near you, and only you will know that. I'd get it fixed, the battery door is an option at best to "get you home". Any longer and you stand the chance of stressing the battery door, itself becoming a problem, perhaps. Gary Leica just responded tot the email I sent them yesterday, and they are sending me a spare part for free, which is what I call excellent service. I don't think it's too difficult, but mine was done for me by the Leica agency locally. I think there are a few on the forum who have completed this task, hopefully they will chime in with their thoughts, and any "gotchas" that you might encounter. BAASCH Posted July 4, 2016 Share #14 Posted July 4, 2016 (edited) Leica kindly sent me two replacement latches, but without the little springs; I did still have the original spring, but it fell into the opening that the latch covered the moment the latch snapped into place and couldn't be removed again (except by breaking it). So now I have a new latch, but it doesn't snap into its battery-holding position. I can manually pull it out, and then the big spring that is pushing the battery upward will keep it in place, and I guess it's better this way than without a latch, but it's not perfect.
