helged Posted September 19, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 19, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all, I just came over this very small, pretty-looking device for making a tripod by means of hiking/skiing poles. Of course, TrailPix cannot substitute a real tripod. But for long, strenuous trips when weight and size are in focus - the M-system + TrailPix might very well do the job. I have no relationship to the product or the producer, but I am on the backer-list...

Michael Hiles Posted September 19, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 19, 2013 Interesting idea. Thanks
Rick Posted October 1, 2013 Share #3 Posted October 1, 2013 That would be great for skiing. I'm not old enough yet to need the stability of trial poles yet, though. So, for hiking it is still going to be the Gitzo six section carbon traveler tripod. Folds down to 16" and weighs just barely 2lbs:Gitzo GT1542T Series 1 Traveler 6x Carbon Fiber GT1542T B&H On my last trip I could have used a mount that allowed the camera to be connected to a railing or such. Several places would not allow tripods and this type of device would have been perfect. Anyone know of a good choice for the M?
jmahto Posted February 9, 2017 Share #4 Posted February 9, 2017 I came across this recently and gave it a try. I hike a lot and carrying a full fledged tripod is out of question (even Gitzo's traveler is 2.3lb+ballhead). Instead of poles, I simply got thin bamboo sticks from local nursery and cut three legs of moderate height (2 feet each). The total package (legs, tripod platform, ball head) came to 0.7lb. It is surprisingly quite sturdy too. I hung almost 9lb of weight to stabilize long lens (I tried 270mm, camera+lens close to 3.5 lb) and I was able to shoot at any shutter speed. Only issue will be in windy situation, but then even a light traveler type will have problem and will need to weighted down. All in all. I found my hiking tripod. My M240+28+extra battery+ND filter+Trailpix tripod with legs+pouch comes to 3.3lb. Can't be happier.
