How to upload images: Prepare the image as follows: 1.   The image should be sRGB and 8-bits 2.   Reduce the size to 2480 pixels on the longest side. (smaller sizes can be set, but are not recommended) 3.   Sharpen properly for screen. 4.   Save as JPG to your desktop, reducing JPG quality to produce 2000 kB (5000 kB for sponsoring members). 5.   In Lightroom these parameters should be set in the Export dialog. 6.   In the Forum posting or editing box, click “c

I really need to get my X-Vario out more, it has been taking a back-seat to the Fuji of late, but the Fuji has moved on.

Gary, the X Vario remains an extremely under-rated camera which is capable in many fields. I am heartened by the dearth of good used models on the market. It suggests to me that most models made have found genuinely appreciative owners who are reluctant to sell them. It is such a shame that Leica appears to have lost interest in the model.

I agree David.

It's certainly not better spec'd than anything comparable of late, certainly not better than my X-Pro2 was. Far from it. But as a usable camera, it is hard to beat.

It has something hard to pinpoint, but it has it.

Agreed, if Leica slipped out an update or two, the market would have something to talk about. And that's where the Fuji shined, as a company they looked after even their oldest versions. That in itself builds a loyal customer base.

Honestly, for 99% of my use the JPEG's straight out of the camera are more than adequate. They're sharp, and well detailed, and I tend to use the X-Vario in B&W mode with the RAW as a colour backup if required.

 

I don't muck with them much but a while back I took the RAW in LR and tried to replicate the B&W JPEG which the X-Vario had provided. It proved a fruitless exercise, and since then I've simply used the JPEG's as is.

I wish I could produce B&W as good as the Vario's jpegs from my M9/Silver Efex Pro; try as I might, I can't come up with anything as good. Does anyone have the formula?!
