The X-Vario really does make an ideal travel camera. Four shots from a visit on Friday to Dunster Castle (National Trust) in Somerset. First is at 70mm (equiv), then three interior shots firstly at 28mm followed by an OOC b&w jpeg and finally one taken at ISO 3200. All hand held.

Looking good Keith, can't wait to get on our Euro sojourn later this year, with my X-Vario, and X1.

Gary

A fine and practical pairing, Gary. They complement each other admirably..

Keith, I agree. The X Vario is a very competent travel camera. Have you considered the Manfrotto Pixi table tripod to aid indoor pictures when allowed? It fits snugly insie the back portion of the Samsonite bag I believe you have.

Totally agree David, even though it sounds like a bit of an overkill, BOTH the X1, and the X-V, but given commonality with batteries and charger maybe not? Either way, they're both going.

I wondered about taking the Leica table-top and ball-head I have. Way smaller than the pair of BenBo's I have.

Gary, see my reference above regarding the Pixi. It wins on compactness, weight and elegant design, but the ball-head is more limited, ruling out vertical shots. I find it a better compromise for travel. I also have the Leica table tripod which has the finest head of any small travel alternatives. It is just less easy to pack into a small camera bag.

After a week on the Somerset coast, am now on the Dorset coast at Studland Bay. Two shots from walks along the beach.

Take part in the 10th Leica X challenge

„The color blue“

The colour blue is omnipresent, a view to the sky or over the water delights us.

Blue was the most popular colour for many artists and gave even creative periods its name.

I look forward to your pictures.

Been neglecting my X-Vario of late, a new upstart arrived, a T body, and has taken my full an undivided attention. Trying to work out if I keep one or the other, or both (unlikely).

Nice to walk about with just the camera and lens, and no fear of wanting to change the lens mid-stream. The beauty of the fixed zoom. Gloomy and cloudy day took a bit of the edge of the colour shot.

Quick LR B&W from a colour JPEG.

"Nice to walk about with just the camera and lens, and no fear of wanting to change the lens mid-stream. The beauty of the fixed zoom" that's what makes me keep using the XV as my main camera companion.

Nice natural black and white image by the way :-)

  • 3 weeks later...

And while I flit between T and X-V, not to mention M6, I found this surprise crop of fungi today. Forgot about returning until quite late in the day, too late really, but I had to have a crack at it.

X-Vario, and given the late time of day, I used the Leitz table top tripod, really handy it was too, as the exposure was 2 seconds, to keep the ISO at 200.

Took quite a few, but won't bore you with them.

Gary
