I'd forgotten I even had one, and then it popped up in a cupboard. If you aren't planning to use R lenses on your new M, but you'd like to get a bit closer, then it's just the thing.

 

This was taken with the 28 summicron at f2 with the oufro. It's not cropped, just shrunk.

 

So, something to do whilst waiting for your M is to dig around in those draws searching for that Oufro!

What a perfect suggestion, a small extension ring which will be usable for the first time now that I can actually focus using the thing. I too have one lurking in my "lens adapters" drawer.

 

Using my M42 to Leica M adapter, I'm also looking forward to comparing a 50mm lens I have on the Leica M with one which costs 4390 times a much - a 3 element Meyer Optik Goerlitz Domiplan 50/2.8 from the 70s bought on an internet auction site near you for £1.23 and the Leica APO 50mm Summicron ASPH bought last month from my dealer for £5400.

 

Will the Leica lens be 4390 times as good? I expect the edges wide open may seal it for the Summicron.

 

In order not to drown in lenses, I'm restricting myself to M42, Nikon F and of course Leica R lenses, but lots of interest - the 50mm f1.8 Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar and 20mm f4 Flektogon "zebra" lenses. The Nikon 14mm/f2.8, the 200mm Medical Nikkor (wish I could find the 120mm at sensible money) Macro, Tilt and Shift, Telephoto. What fun!

I must confess your title and writing had me guessing that an Oufro was a bygone fashion. A hat that you wear that looks like an afro...or something. And that the charming picture was the hat upside down.

With a Visoflex III.

The M9 is attached to it at the very end.

 

Of course, on the M240 one could use LiveView, and one could also check up whether the Visoflex is perfectly adjusted.

 

In another thread Wilson described how to replace the Visoflex with a simple extension tube for the M240.

 

I have several Visoflexes and had them adjusted.

BTW, I have used my NEXs with adapter to replace the M9 as well.

So I could verify the adjustment of my Visoflexes.

Indeed, they are spot on.

 

Unfortunately one cannot use the NEXs for rangefinder calibration.

However, that's where the new M excels as well.

I have this Oufro at home I'm sure. I'm not sure why I bought it. I think I thought I could use it on my old M8. I'm not at home now, will this adapter go between the M and the 28 Summicron for example? And, if it would, would it give 1:1?

This shot was taken with the 28 summicron - Certainly not 1:1, but certainly close.

Jono... we oldtime collectors have DOZENS of the most various devices to mount between the M and the DOZENS of old lenses we have... ; I'd expect, when M will be in our hands, DOZENS x DOZENS of macro/micro pictures posted in this forum... (wait for "soft macro of flowers" taken with my Thambar... )

You have to remember that I'm a real newcomer - I only bought my first Leica in 2006

I think that what a lot of people are going to discover around here is how much fun they can have . . . It might not be art - but it really is fun!

 

As for the Thambar - just done some googlin - looks magic - and about the price of a 50 'cron AA!!!! With Live view it might turn from an uncontrollable beast to a thing of beauty and wonder.

FUN !! Let's admit... is one of my driver, as any amateur, I think... (ask Karlz Heinz about his "long focals with stacked focal multipliers..." )

 

And yes, Thambar can be magic... maybe one can achieve the same or near with some strange "machined and muddy" piece of glass in front of a standard lens.... but with a lens from 1932 is another taste

Can an M8 or M9 focus in the range finder when the adaptor is attached? How do you focus?

No focus via the rangefinder is possible.  Focus by trial and error (checking focus on the camera display).

Just found mine! Forgot I still had it. Wow, is it heavy compared to the new one. So I guess getting the new macro adapter was a waste? I am going to try it with an old Summaron 35/2.8.  Anyone tried it with the thin (225g) Tele-Elmarit 90/2.8?
