IWC Doppel Posted August 29, 2012 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Any ideas about the assembly of the 50mmVII Summilux, I noticed that I can unscrew the lens, I have nipped it up and it works fine but I did manage to unscrew a little adjusting the aperture ring. It has only recently been serviced and coded I did notice this once before. Is this normal in terms of the lens being tightened on the threads fro assembly ? Focus is buttery smooth and all seems fine ?

lct Posted August 29, 2012 Share #3 Posted August 29, 2012 Such things happen. Here on a "thin" Tele-Elmarit 90/2.8 and a Summicron 35/2 v4. I woud not worry too much about that.
Bill W Posted August 30, 2012 Share #4 Posted August 30, 2012 It happened to me years ago with a 35 cron. I sent it to Leica just to make sure. It cam back and did not "unscrew" again. I believe there is either a set screw or they use something on the threads to keep it from doing this. Can't remember.
lars_bergquist Posted August 30, 2012 Share #5 Posted August 30, 2012 What is a "50mmVII Summilux"? The current 50mm Summilux is the third version, while the Summicron is version 4. Am I misinformed? The old man from the Age of the v.1 5cm Summicron

The old man from the Age of the v.1 5cm Summicron you seem to write "v.2" and he writes it VII, obviously there aren't seven of them.

Up through the early 70s it was setscrews, from late 70s on, thread-locking compound. Both have their merits and demerits.

Leica NJ fixed it under warranty very quickly.
